  • Nigerian football legend, Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha, has shared insights into how he managed his finances during his playing career, stressing the importance of discipline and structure.

Speaking on a podcast, Okocha explained that his contract earnings were strictly reserved for investments. According to him, his salary from clubs was never for luxury spending.

“My contract money is for investment. So, the contract? It’s investment fully,” he said.

The former Super Eagles captain revealed that he relied on match bonuses for daily living expenses and endorsements for leisure. “Match bonuses are enough for you to live. You have endorsements, it’s enough for you to buy toys—those nice cars, nice watches, travel with your wife,” Okocha noted.

He added that the key was maintaining balance and knowing when to cut back. “It’s all about putting a structure in place. And if you’re not winning enough matches, then you backpedal a bit. It’s not every month that you go shopping,” he advised.

  • Football Legend Edgar Davids gets robbed of property worth £188,000 by his ex-girlfriend.

Dutch football legend Edgar Davids had his £188,000 art collection stolen by a close friend, only discovering the crime when a buyer contacted him on Instagram.

Davids, 52, had entrusted Nabila Habiby, 38, to look after his possessions after relocating to central London in 2014. Instead, she used 37 pieces of art to secure loans worth £31,500, later defaulting and causing pawn brokers to auction off the works worldwide.

Davids believed the collection, including works by Paul Insect and Ron English, was safely stored in Enfield. In 2017, he was alerted when a Hong Kong buyer messaged him after spotting his name on a Paul Insect piece. Shocked, Davids reported the theft to police.

Only 11 paintings have been recovered, with 25 still missing. Prosecutors said Davids had an “emotional connection” to the art, much of it bought from New York’s Opera Gallery between 2006 and 2012.

Habiby, who once lived with Davids and had keys to his home, first pawned two “Burning Man” works in 2014 for a £7,000 loan. In 2016, she raided the storage unit again, pawning another 33 Paul Insect works and two Ron English pieces for £24,500.

Prosecutor Mark Seymour said she forged invoices and gallery paperwork, adding she “had no intention of paying back the loans.”

By 2018, Habiby denied all allegations, claiming she worked as a consultant with a steady income. After leaving the UK, she was extradited from Belgium in 2022. She also faced a separate fraud charge for using another friend’s bank card to pay nearly £3,000 rent in Knightsbridge.

This week, Habiby pleaded guilty to two counts of fra¥d. Judge Alexander Jacobs warned her she faces up to 34 months in prison, saying, “There was an abuse of position, power, trust, and responsibility.” She remains on bail until sentencing in November.

  • “I Eat It Once a Month” – Mikel Obi Opens Up About His Relationship with Nigerian Swallow.

Former Super Eagles captain and football legend, Mikel Obi, has opened up about his cautious relationship with one of Nigeria’s most beloved dishes, swallow.

Speaking in a recent interview alongside former England international Eni Aluko, Mikel expressed his love for Nigerian cuisine, but revealed that he’s had to significantly cut back on swallow due to how heavy it feels on his body.

“I eat it once a month, no I cannot do it,” Mikel admitted. “You kinda feel heavy and difficult to digest. It takes me a few days to digest.” Swallow — a broad category of Nigerian meals made from starchy ingredients like yam, cassava, or plantain — is traditionally paired with rich soups and pounded or rolled into balls for eating by hand.

Despite its deep cultural roots, Mikel noted that it doesn’t sit well with his system anymore, especially after his nutritionist advised moderation.

Eni Aluko, who also participated in the conversation, agreed. “It’s quite heavy, it doesn’t digest well,” she said, adding that her own nutritionist also suggested she focus more on the soup instead. “It makes me feel sleepy,” Aluko added with a laugh.

Mikel agreed, but couldn’t deny the appeal: “Exactly, but it’s so good.” Despite their concerns, they acknowledged that some players still thrive on it. Aluko mentioned that Nigerian player Michael Nwobi reportedly eats swallow before matches.

Mikel responded with admiration: “Well, he should keep eating it, ‘cause he’s fine and he’s playing really well — killing it, for real.”

  • Enyimba FC Fires Back at Brown Ideye Over Welfare Claims: “He Was One of Our Highest Paid!”

Enyimba FC has broken its silence on accusations made by ex-Super Eagles star, Brown Ideye, who recently slammed the club for allegedly neglecting player welfare during his time on the team.

The Aba-based club labeled Ideye’s comments as “misleading and self-serving,” revealing that he was not only one of the best-paid players in the squad — earning ₦1 million monthly — but also received premium benefits, including ₦65,000-per-night hotel stays and air travel perks.

Ideye’s short stint, which followed a highly publicized move hailed as a win for Nigerian football, ended on a sour note. Despite the investment, he netted just five goals across all competitions, leaving fans and management disheartened.

“He was brought in to inspire and lead, but he never delivered,” said a club official. Insiders also allege his presence stirred friction within the squad, citing poor integration and commitment — factors that reportedly deterred other clubs from signing him earlier.

Under the leadership of football legend Kanu Nwankwo, Enyimba had hoped Ideye’s arrival would spark a new era. Instead, the fallout has raised fresh questions about player-club relations in Nigeria’s football scene.
