Former Chairman of the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Muhuyi Magaji, has recounted his ordeal after being arrested by heavily armed police officers and transported overnight to Abuja. Magaji said his detention was linked to his role as lead prosecution counsel in the multibillion-naira Dala Inland Dry Port case. He revealed that he spent over 24 hours in custody, was denied access to the arrest warrant, and was later charged with defamation. Rights group HEDA condemned the arrest as politically motivated and part of a pattern of intimidation against Magaji following his anti-corruption investigations.

  • JUST IN: Natasha Akpoti Fires Back — Says Akpabio’s ₦200BN Lawsuit Will Finally Exp0se His Alleged S£xual Harassment

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has dropped a bombshell after receiving a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit from Senate President Godswill Akpabio over allegations of s£xual harassment.

In her statement, Natasha said she is relieved the case has finally landed in court — because, according to her, the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges refused to hear her earlier complaints, hiding behind the excuse that Akpabio’s wife had already sued her.

    She wrote:

“I now have a chance to prove how I was s£xually harassed, and how my refusal to give into his demands unleashed a series of unprovoked attacks on my person. See you in court, Godswill Akpabio.”

  • End Politically Motivated Charges Against Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Tells Tinubu

Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately halt the prosecution of activist Omoyele Sowore by the DSS. Sowore faces a five-count charge of cyberstalking and defamation for calling President Tinubu a “criminal” in social media posts. Ejimakor argued that the case lacks legal merit and warned that using the judiciary to settle political disputes is counterproductive. The DSS claims Sowore’s posts were false and inciting, citing screenshots and correspondence with X and Meta as evidence. Sowore, a long-time government critic, appears again in court as the trial continues.

  • Court Debunks Assassination Rumour on Judge Who Sentenced Nnamdi Kanu — Labels Viral Claims ‘Fake News’

The Federal High Court has firmly denied a viral report alleging that Justice James Omotosho survived an assassination attempt days after sentencing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment.

The rumour, circulated by a Facebook blogger, claimed the judge was attacked and rushed to the hospital. However, in an official statement on Sunday, Chief Registrar Sulaiman Hassan described the story as completely false, unfounded, and designed to mislead Nigerians.

The statement, titled “Rebuttal to False Publication by ‘Celebrity Blogger’ on the Alleged Assassination Attempt on Justice James Omotosho”, urged the public to disregard the report and refrain from spreading misinformation.

“We firmly and unequivocally declare that the said report is completely false,” the court stated.
“The public is advised to treat this publication as fake news.”

Hassan expressed concern over the motive behind the fabrication, noting that such claims could spark panic and undermine confidence in the judiciary. He called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute those behind the malicious publication under cybercrime and defamation laws.

    BACKGROUND ON THE CASE
Justice Omotosho had on Thursday sentenced Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment on terrorism charges. While several counts carried the death penalty, the judge opted for leniency, saying:

“As a Christian, I chose to be merciful.”

Kanu received life sentences on multiple counts, with additional terms running concurrently. The court also ordered his transfer to protective custody outside Kuje Prison and restricted his access to digital devices.

The judge further ruled that Kanu’s seized radio transmitter be forfeited to the Federal Government, with DSS allowed to pursue forfeiture of additional exhibits.

Describing the IPOB leader as “unruly” and “not remorseful,” Justice Omotosho maintained that the defendant still demonstrated “a tendency of violence.”

  • Senator Ned Nwoko Defends Marriage to Regina Daniels Amid Controversy, Denies Political Smear Allegations.

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has addressed the controversies surrounding his six-year marriage to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, asserting that recent stories are politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

Speaking through his Communication and Technical Action Team, Mr. Nwoko clarified the ongoing age debate, emphasizing that Regina Daniels, born on October 10, 2000, married him at 19 not 17 as widely claimed. “Her mother personally brought her to me during the traditional marriage ceremony. I never pursued her,” he stated.

He also acknowledged Regina’s past struggles with substance use and bipolar medication, highlighting that her medical history is verifiable. “Enemies of progress are manipulating her for their own agendas. If there were any secrets to disclose, she would have done so.

All circulating stories are fabricated and amount to criminal defamation,” he added.

On his marriage, Nwoko emphasized that it followed customary traditions. “Polygamy is accepted under our customs. I married her honourably, gave her a name, and treated her with dignity. My affection for Regina has always been genuine, and anyone who has worked with me can attest to the care and attention I gave her,” he said.

The senator described the controversies as politically driven attacks meant to halt his developmental initiatives. He cited claims of land grabbing in his hometown as false, noting that the land he acquired was legally purchased for the establishment of the University of Sports, a project benefiting the community.

He also accused critics, including Omoyele Sowore and Jebose, of exploiting Regina’s vulnerability to settle old scores. “Those using her current condition to launch attacks against me, knowing they have no case, will eventually face justice. That she has made no credible allegations against me confirms there is nothing illegal in my actions,” Nwoko concluded.

  • Senator Natasha violated Penal Code, must face Criminal Charges – FG.

The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has insisted that the defamation charges filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan were properly instituted in line with the provisions of the Penal Code Law of Nigeria and the Constitution.

The AGF’s office stated this in its response to the senator’s preliminary objection to the three-count criminal charge pending before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Maitama, presided over by Justice Chizoba Oji.

The charges against Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, stemmed from petitions filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, following her public claims that the duo had conspired to assassinate her.

    AGF Insists Charges Are Lawful
In its counter-affidavit, the AGF’s office maintained that the decision to prosecute the senator was taken after a comprehensive investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, which reviewed all petitions from both the complainants and the defendant.

“The three counts were preferred against the defendant pursuant to the Penal Code Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in the bona fide exercise of the prosecutorial powers of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation as guaranteed under the Constitution,” the prosecution stated.

It further argued that the senator’s actions contravened provisions of the law, stressing that the case was filed “in the public interest, the interest of justice, and to prevent abuse of legal process.”

According to the AGF’s office, the charges were neither politically motivated nor an abuse of prosecutorial power.

“The criminal charge against the defendant arose from the comprehensive and conclusive investigation of the case, including all petitions and parties involved, by the Nigeria Police Force.”

  • Alleged defamation: You’ve three days to apologise or be sued – Akpabio warns Pearse.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has threatened to sue a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos state, Adetokunbo Pearse, over what he described as false and defamatory statements made against him during a live broadcast on Arise Television.

Akpabio, in a demand letter dated October 7, 2025, and signed by his legal representatives, S. I. Ameh (SAN) & Co., alleged that Pearse made reckless and malicious comments intended to damage his reputation.

He ordered Pearse to issue a public apology and retraction within three days or face legal proceedings for defamation and criminal incitement.

The letter, titled “Demand for Immediate Retraction and Public Apology for Defamatory Publication Against Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON,” stated that during a political segment on Arise TV on October 4, 2025, Pearse made unsubstantiated allegations of corruption, manipulation, and criminality against the Senate President.

“If we get more women in the National Assembly and we have a Senate President like Akpabio, what is the point?

“The National Assembly we have now is a rubber-stamp assembly. Any president who wants to manipulate it can do so. And this one is actually manipulating it to the detriment of progress for Nigerians.

“Akpabio should not be President of the Senate. He’s a criminal; he shouldn’t be there. He has cases in the EFCC, millions that he stole when he was governor… If he has criminal cases, let him go and answer them. There’s no way a man like that should be there in the first place,” Pearse had said.

The Senate President’s legal team described the comments as false in every material particular, stating that the remarks were made with total disregard for the truth and in bad faith.

They argued that the statements were intended to portray their client as a corrupt and dishonest politician, thereby exposing him to public ridicule and hatred.

  • Lere Olayinka Counters Sowore’s Court Claims, Says ‘Free Speech Isn’t a License for Defamation’

On Monday, October 6, 2025, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, reacted to a post by activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore regarding his ongoing legal battle with the Department of State Services (DSS).

Sowore had earlier taken to his X handle to share updates from a court hearing involving himself, Meta, and X (formerly Twitter). The activist revealed that the companies were dragged into the case over alleged defamatory posts — one of which labeled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) a criminal.

According to Sowore, Meta’s legal representative appeared to side with the DSS during the hearing, sparking online discussions about freedom of expression and digital censorship in Nigeria.

In response, Olayinka fired back on his own X page, emphasizing that freedom of speech does not include making unfounded criminal allegations against individuals.

The online exchange reignited public debate about free speech, accountability, and Nigeria’s cybercrime laws, particularly given Sowore’s history with the DSS following his 2019 #RevolutionNow movement.

As of now, neither side has escalated the matter further, but Nigerians are closely watching as the court proceedings unfold and the debate over digital rights continues.

  • Today's Headlines: Natasha Accuses FG of Double Standard; US Vows Visa Ban on Corrupt Nigerian VIPs.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused the Federal Government of political persecution and double standards over the six-count criminal defamation charges filed against her. The lawmaker, representing Kogi Central, argued in court that while her petitions against Senate President Godswill Akpabio were ignored, the government rushed to prosecute her based on complaints from Akpabio and former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello. Her legal team, led by four Senior Advocates of Nigeria, described the charges as unconstitutional, frivolous, and aimed at silencing opposition voices.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who pleaded not guilty in June and was granted bail on self-recognition, insists the case is a misuse of the criminal justice system. She contends that defamation is civil in nature and should not be criminalised. Meanwhile, a coalition of over 350 women’s rights groups has petitioned the United Nations, alleging gender-based discrimination in her suspension from the Senate. The activists argue that the standoff undermines women’s participation in politics and breaches Nigeria’s international obligations. The matter resumes in court on October 20

In a post shared via his Facebook handle on Sunday, VDM described the viral photo as fake and AI-generated, insisting that it was made to tarnish his image as he has never met the actress in person.

“I will like to address this picture going viral. Fellow Nigerians, I am not the man responsible for her pregnancy if she is. I have never met her in my life, and I am sure I won’t be willing to meet her ever. Please disregard this picture because it is a fake picture to tarnish my reputation. I am certain this is AI,” he wrote.

Going further, he took a swipe at weight-loss brands, suggesting that Nkechi Blessing’s visible belly in the photo might be due to excessive use of slimming products rather than pregnancy.

“In my humble opinion, I think it is the combination of different slimming products that is in that belle,” he added.

VDM also used the opportunity to caution against misinformation and cyberbullying, calling on Nigerians to be more vigilant against false advertisement and character defamation.

“Thank you all, have a lovely Sunday and say no to false advertising in Nigeria. Protect one another. Say no to bullying too,” he concluded.

The viral photo featured VDM, a critic of the actress, wrapping his hand around Nkechi Blessing’s protruding belly.

It stirred mixed reactions online, with some metizens speculating about VDM’s relationship with the actress.

  • You are lucky Pres. Tinubu believes in the rule of law — Nyesom Wike  fires at Sowore Over his Tinubu ‘Criminal’ Remark.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has criticised activist and AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, for describing President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”

On August 25, Sowore wrote on X: “This criminal @officialpbat actually went to Brazil to state that there is no more corruption under his regime in Nigeria. What audacity to lie shamelessly!”

The DSS later filed charges against him for defamation, accusing him of making “false” statements that violate Nigeria’s Cybercrimes and Terrorism Prevention laws. The agency also asked X and Meta to delete the post, calling it a threat to national security. Sowore refused, describing the DSS action as “despicable.”

Supporters under the Simplified Movement thronged Government House, Port Harcourt, from 6 a.m., bringing drums, flutes, and dance troupes in a show of solidarity.

They included sacked local government chairmen and former factional Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo. The crowd blocked Nnamdi Azikiwe Road, causing gridlock, but dispersed by midday when Fubara failed to show.

Fubara’s absence has fueled speculation. During the emergency period, he reportedly attended a peace meeting with Wike and Assembly members at Tinubu’s behest.

According to TheCable, insiders said conditions included Fubara abandoning a second-term bid in 2027 and ceding power to Wike to nominate all 23 LGA chairmen. Although council polls were held last month, Fubara neither participated nor commented.

  • Imo Journalist Granted ₦2m Bail After 30 Days in Custody Over Alleged Defamation of Governor’s Aide

Ejike Ogbonna, publisher of First Citizen Newspaper, has been granted bail by a Magistrate’s Court in Owerri after spending 30 days in detention at the Tiger Base Police Unit.

Ogbonna, who faces allegations of cybercrime against a government official, was granted bail in the sum of ₦2 million. The court also directed him to provide a surety with proof of landed property ownership within its jurisdiction and obtain the endorsement of a traditional ruler for the bail bond.

Presiding Magistrate C. J. Uzoechi ruled that the case is bailable and adjourned the matter to October 3, 2025, for hearing.

The journalist, who appeared in court in handcuffs, is facing a four-count charge of alleged cyberbullying, including claims of defaming the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Compliance, Chinasa Nwaneri, through a voice note circulated on social media.

His detention and trial have triggered outrage among journalists in Imo State, who described the development as an attack on press freedom. They also urged the state’s police commissioner to restrain officers from being used by government officials to intimidate citizens.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Emir Of Lafiagi Threatens Journalists Over Reports On Terrorist Attacks In Kwara North

Journalists in Kwara State are facing mounting intimidation after the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, reportedly threatened them for consistently reporting terrorist and bandit attacks in Kwara North communities.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the monarch summoned journalists to his palace on Sunday, warning them to stop publishing reports on insecurity, which he claimed were “embarrassing” Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

According to insiders, the Emir said he was acting on the governor’s directive and cautioned that journalists who defied the order risked arrest.

The threat comes amid rising insecurity in Lafiagi, Patigi, and surrounding areas, where residents have endured repeated kidnappings, killings, and ransom demands by bandits.

Journalists and media platforms including SaharaReporters, Nupeko TV, and Informant247 have previously accused the state government of attempting to silence coverage of insecurity.

The development follows the detention of blogger Abdulsamad Oloyin, popularly known as “Yolo,” by the NSCDC last week over alleged defamation, further fueling concerns of a clampdown on press freedom in the state.
