Real Madrid’s hopes of rescheduling their LaLiga 2025/26 opener against Osasuna have been dashed after the league formally denied their request for extra rest following their Club World Cup semifinal run.
The request, backed by a verbal agreement involving LaLiga, the AFE players' union, and clubs, cited the collective bargaining agreement which mandates players receive three weeks of vacation and three weeks of preseason. However, LaLiga denied any such agreement existed.
Even if RFEF’s Competition Judge approves the delay, LaLiga insists it retains control over scheduling decisions — escalating tensions between the club and the league.
While AFE maintains that verbal commitments were made to accommodate clubs reaching the latter stages of international tournaments, LaLiga is holding firm, stating there's no “force majeure” to justify a postponement.
As it stands, Real Madrid is set to kick off the season on August 19 amid ongoing disputes and growing controversy.
