  • Senate Approves Life Imprisonment for Defilement of Minors.

The Nigerian Senate has approved life imprisonment with no option of fine for anyone found guilty of defiling a minor, marking a tougher stance against child sexual abuse.

During plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio distinguished defilement from rape, insisting that offences involving minors deserve heavier punishment.

“Defilement of a minor should be different from that of rape; those involved in defilement should suffer greater punishment. I promise that it should be 20 years if you defile an underage,” Akpabio said, adding that he had witnessed many cases involving children aged five to ten years.

He then invited contributions from lawmakers. Senator Adamu Aliero proposed that the minimum sentence for defilement be fixed at 20 years, stressing that offenders should not be given any option of fine.

In a stronger recommendation, Senator Sunday Adeleke called for life imprisonment, citing countries like India and Pakistan that treat defilement as a capital offence. He argued that Nigeria must demonstrate zero tolerance for such crimes.

After deliberation, the Senate unanimously adopted the motion, resolving that any man or woman who engages in sexual intercourse with a minor will face life imprisonment without the possibility of a fine.

Lawmakers noted that the resolution reflects the National Assembly’s determination to protect children and curb the rising cases of sexual violence across the country. The Senate President described the decision as a step toward restoring dignity, justice, and moral responsibility within Nigerian society.

  • Osun Govt, APC Clash Over Alleged ₦300 Million Scandal Involving Female Permanent Secretary

The political atmosphere in Osun State has once again heated up as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Osun State Government trade accusations over an alleged ₦300 million corruption scandal said to involve a senior female civil servant.

In a statement released by Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of shielding a female Permanent Secretary allegedly caught embezzling state funds.

According to the opposition, the current administration’s “administrative hollowness” has allowed some political appointees to loot public resources unchecked.

“Why is the Adeleke government, which preaches accountability and rule of law, protecting a Permanent Secretary who allegedly embezzled over ₦300 million?” the APC queried.

The APC also claimed the state government was secretly managing the issue, arranging for the accused to repay the funds instead of facing prosecution. The party urged the EFCC and Nigeria Police to intervene, alleging that the implicated civil servant is the wife of a serving commissioner in the Adeleke cabinet.

However, in a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the allegations as “beer parlour gossip elevated to party propaganda,” insisting that no such scandal exists.

“There is no ₦300 million scam in any Osun government ministry or agency. Governor Adeleke runs a transparent and accountable administration,” Rasheed stated.

He accused the APC of spreading lies to distract the public, emphasizing that the state’s procurement law and due process system make such corruption “impossible.”

Rasheed further warned that the government might take legal action against those behind the “libellous” claims, reaffirming Adeleke’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

“Governor Adeleke has never and will never shield any corrupt official. Transparency remains the hallmark of his government,” he concluded.

  • Osun Monarchs Appeal to Adeleke Over Alleged Plot to Reverse Their Elevation

Two newly elevated traditional rulers in Osun State have raised concerns over a purported attempt by officials of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to revoke their appointments.

The monarchs—Olokeolooru Obalufon of Okeolooru Obalufon, Oba Adebisi Mukaila Michael, and Onirante of Irante, Oba Ogundele Olasunkanmi Mathew—were elevated to Part II Obas by Governor Ademola Adeleke during the state executive council meeting on Friday, September 12, 2025, according to a letter from their counsel, Sulaiman Akano.

Before their elevation, the two monarchs served as community chiefs (Baale) under the Akinfin Traditional Council in Boluwaduro Local Government. Reports indicate that each monarch paid N500,000 to cover the presentation of their staff of office and instrument of appointment.

However, a few days after receiving their appointment letters and staff of office, the monarchs were allegedly informed of a plan by some ministry officials to reverse their elevation.

In a letter dated September 23, addressed to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, their counsel urged Governor Adeleke to intervene and prevent any attempt to annul the appointments.

    The letter stated in part:

“After our clients were duly screened and cleared by both the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, approved their elevation to Part II (Recognised Status) under the Chief’s Law (Cap. 25) Laws of Osun State 2002 during the EXCO meeting held on September 12, 2025.
Our clients received appointment letters on September 15 and were presented with their staff of office on September 16. The elevation was gazetted in the Osun State of Nigeria Gazette on September 18, 2025.”

The letter further alleged that the Oluresi of Iresi is conspiring with some ministry officials to reverse the appointments. The counsel warned that such a move could spark unrest between the affected communities.

“The appointment and elevation of our clients were well received by their communities. Any attempt to reverse the appointments could trigger communal tension. We appeal to your office to caution and restrain the Oluresi of Iresi and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs from taking such action,” the letter added.

The counsel emphasized that the monarchs are prepared to take legal action against anyone involved in the alleged conspiracy if the matter is not addressed.

Attempts to reach Barr. Dosu Babatunde, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

  • Reactions As Adeleke Awards N678m For Reconstruction Of Ede Shrine.

Reactions have trailed the award of a N678 million contract for the reconstruction of the Sango-Timi Shrine and Grove at the palace of Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal, by the Osun State Government.

A document sighted by OSUN DEFENDER showed that the Sango-Timi Shrine and Grove was one of the contracts awarded by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

Reacting to the development, the Coordinator, Centre for Social Justice and Public Protection (CSJPP), Akin Akanji, slammed the state government for awarding such an amount to the reconstruction of the shrine.

Akanji said other critical sectors needed the attention of the state government, accusing Governor Adeleke of not getting his priorities right.

He said, “It is indeed sad. This government is drifting away from reality day by day, and unfortunately, the people of Osun are the ones suffering the consequences.

“The state education, agriculture, and youth sector is begging for a major revamp, and while the government is shouting that there is no fund due to the seizure of local government allocations, it is awarding over N600 million to reconstruct a shrine.

“The question we should ask is, would Adeleke have approved that contract if it were in another town? His over-concentration on Ede is getting out of control.

“Adeleke should not forget that he is the governor of Osun State and not Ede, and people are watching. This is Osun taxpayers money, and he is behaving as if Ede is the only town in the state. He should be cautioned by those who genuinely love him.”

  • Osun Governor Orders Action On Ipetumodu Stool After Monarch’s US Fraud Conviction

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dosu Babatunde, to take swift action on the Ipetumodu throne crisis following the jailing of the community’s monarch, Oba Joseph Oloyede, in the United States for COVID-19 loan fraud.

Oba Oloyede, the 27th Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, was convicted in Ohio for fraudulently accessing U.S. pandemic loan schemes between April 2020 and February 2022. He was sentenced to over four years in prison, ordered to forfeit assets, and pay $4.4 million in restitution.

Governor Adeleke addressed the issue at Friday’s State Executive Council meeting, alongside other policy matters including ICT expansion, youth agropreneurship, sports development, and climate change initiatives.

  • Osun Kingmakers Oppose Plot to Dethrone Monarch Imprisoned in the U.S

Tension gripped Ipetumodu, Osun State, on Tuesday during a meeting of princes over the fate of Oba Joseph Oloyede, the 27th Apetumodu, recently jailed in the U.S. for COVID-19 loan fraud.

Oba Oloyede was sentenced to over four years in prison, ordered to forfeit assets, and repay $4.4m. His conviction has fueled calls for Governor Ademola Adeleke to declare the throne vacant.

At the palace meeting chaired by the Asalu of Ipetumodu, Chief Sunday Adedeji, calm gave way to chaos when a prince demanded that Adedeji, as the most senior kingmaker, formally notify the governor. Adedeji refused, announced he was no longer interested in being a kingmaker, and recused himself from the process. The decision triggered heated arguments, forcing the meeting to collapse without resolution.

Prince Olaboye Ayoola of the Aribile Ruling House expressed disappointment, saying: “We decided that two new kingmakers should be elected and a letter sent to the governor declaring the stool vacant. But Chief Adedeji rejected this, and chaos followed.”

Adedeji later confirmed his stance, stating only, “It is true. Peace has to reign first.” The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio confirmed Oloyede’s conviction in August, noting he exploited COVID-19 loan programmes under the CARES Act between 2020 and 2022.

The case has deepened divisions in Ipetumodu. Princes of Aribile argue the throne should remain with them, either until Oloyede completes his sentence or through another candidate from their house. But the rival Fagbemokun house insists it is their turn to produce the next Apetumodu.

Osun State’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dosu Babatunde, said the government would obtain a Certified True Copy of the U.S. judgment before deciding. Security was tight at the meeting, with DSS operatives stationed outside the palace.

  • Deeone Sparks Drama as He Compares Mr Eazi & Temi Otedola’s $14M Wedding to Davido & Chioma’s $6M Ceremony

Former Big Brother Naija star, Aderombi Adedayo Martin, better known as Deeone, has stirred heated debate online after comparing the luxurious weddings of Mr Eazi & Temi Otedola to that of Davido & Chioma.

In a video shared on Instagram, the comedian alleged that Mr Eazi’s fairy-tale wedding to billionaire daughter Temi Otedola cost a staggering $14 million, spread across Monaco, Dubai, and Iceland.

He contrasted this with Davido and Chioma’s lavish Miami wedding, which he estimated at around $6 million. According to him, the Otedola-Ajibade ceremony pulled in some of Africa’s most powerful figures, including Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu, cementing its place as a global-class event.

While acknowledging the Adeleke family’s wealth, Deeone maintained they cannot rival the financial muscle of the Otedolas and Mr Eazi’s circle.

Taking a swipe at Davido’s camp, especially Cubana Chiefpriest, he mocked those who once chanted “Money na Water” but have now gone quiet in the face of superior affluence.

Deeone wrapped up by urging Nigerians to air their views freely since both weddings were public spectacles, reminding people not to compare themselves to others:
“Where some people’s money ends, another person’s money begins.”

    Social Media Reactions

As expected, fans didn’t hold back:

@gycvbnbnb: “Coming from somebody who doesn’t have complete 10m.”

@rita_iziegbe: “I just pity for you, Davido go use you as scapegoat soon.”

@oluwa_sharonn: “Both families can afford each type of wedding. What matters is that they got what they wanted.”

@mummy_awonboiz: “Mr Eazi’s classy wedding will teach Davido that empty barrels make the loudest noise.”

@champagnepapisbabe: “Davido is the blueprint; everyone talks about him to trend.”

  • Gov Adeleke appoints Osun puff-puff vendor as govt house chef.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has appointed Oluwatosin Adejumo, a street puff-puff seller, as a chef in the Government House, Osogbo.

The governor made the announcement yesterday through his official X handle, describing Adejumo as “the puff-puff seller turned Government House chef.”

Adejumo, who holds a Nigerian Certificate in Education, NCE, and has professional catering training, came to Adeleke’s attention during a recent labour rally in Osogbo, where organised labour groups pledged support for his administration and endorsed his bid for a second term.

The governor explained that the appointment was in fulfillment of a promise he made after meeting Adejumo at the rally.

“A few days ago, I met Ms. Oluwatosin Adejumo during the rally where organised labour, in collaboration with other unions, endorsed the work we are doing and declared support for my re-election,” Adeleke wrote.

“Today, I fulfilled that promise by officially presenting her appointment letter as one of our Government House chefs. Beyond this employment, I have also granted her a scholarship up to the Master’s level, should she decide to further her education.

“Her story is a powerful reminder that hard work and dedication never go unnoticed. My administration remains committed to identifying, recognising, and uplifting excellence wherever we find it.”

A video shared on the governor’s page showed the moment Adeleke purchased Adejumo’s entire tray of puff-puff for ₦50,000 during the rally, before instructing aides to collect her details. The footage also captured a brief conversation where Adejumo disclosed her catering experience, which eventually earned her the new role.

  • Governor Adeleke Urges Security Agencies to Stay Neutral in Osun Politics

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has appealed to security agencies in the state to remain neutral and professional in the unfolding political atmosphere, stressing that Osun, as the home state of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, must not be turned into a political battleground.

The governor made this call during the decoration ceremony of his Aide-De-Camp (ADC), DSP Ahmed Bio Abdulraman, who was recently promoted. The event, held at the Government House, Osogbo, was attended by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, the NSCDC State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, FRSC Sector Commander, Leye Adegboyega, and other top security chiefs.

Governor Adeleke commended the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism, particularly praising the Inspector General of Police and the Osun State Command for maintaining discipline and due process. He singled out CP Gotan for his leadership style, which he said has fostered peace and order across the state.

“We should continue to maintain a level playing field. This is the home state of Mr. President. Mr. President belongs to all of us. Osun should not be turned into a battleground,” Adeleke emphasized.

The governor also expressed delight at DSP Abdulraman’s promotion, describing him as a disciplined and loyal officer who exemplifies the values of the Nigeria Police. He noted that the Force remains a critical institution for Nigeria’s stability and deserves greater appreciation for the sacrifices of its personnel nationwide.

In his goodwill message, CP Ibrahim Gotan congratulated Abdulraman and reminded him that promotions come with added responsibilities. He urged the officer to remain committed to discipline, professionalism, and the ideals of effective policing.

Gotan reaffirmed that the Osun Police Command will continue to uphold fairness, human rights, and respect for the rule of law. He also assured Governor Adeleke of the command’s readiness to sustain peace and security across the state.

The commissioner further encouraged officers to emulate the hard work and dedication of DSP Abdulraman, whom he described as a role model within the Force.

  • Governor Adeleke employs 30-year-old Puff-Puff Seller, makes her a Chef at the Osun state Government house.

At just 30 years old, Oluwatosin Adejumo, a Home Economics graduate with a Nigerian Certificate in Education, had already endured some of life’s hardest struggles.

After losing her mother four years ago, she was left with little more than sheer determination. To survive, she turned to a small puff-puff business, selling daily to keep herself afloat.

“After graduation, I lost my mum, and that made it impossible for me to continue with my education. Along the way, I met another mother figure, Mrs. Funmilayo Grace Ajakaiye, who works as a caterer. I often followed her to work, and through that, I was able to save a bit.

With the support of suppliers who gave me goods on credit, I started a puff-puff business and repaid them after sales,” she recounted. Her breakthrough came unexpectedly during a solidarity walk when Governor Ademola Adeleke noticed her selling puff-puff.

He invited her forward, bought everything she had prepared, and gave her ₦50,000 in cash. She narrated the moment: “As I was selling puff-puff, everyone around was rejoicing with him, and I joined in, shouting ‘Imole.’ That was when he saw me and called me.

He asked for the price of the puff-puff, and after I told him, he gave me money. Then he asked me to come inside, inquired if I was a graduate, and when I said yes, he handed me over to the Commissioner of Affairs and Protocol.” But that was only the beginning.

The governor went further to announce that Oluwatosin would no longer have to rely on puff-puff sales for survival. Instead, she was appointed as a chef at the Osun State Government House.
