• Outrage as Remi Tinubu Confronts Gov Adeleke on Stage, Nigerians Call Incident a National Disgrace

Nigerians on social media have condemned First Lady Oluremi Tinubu after she openly confronted Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during an event celebrating the Ooni of Ife’s 10th anniversary on the throne. Remi Tinubu reportedly approached Adeleke on stage, warning him to “stop the music” and telling him she would switch off his microphone if he didn’t conclude his speech within five minutes.

The incident sparked backlash online, with many users describing her conduct as disrespectful, intimidating, and reminiscent of past First Lady–Governor clashes during the Jonathan era. Critics argued that as an unelected official, the First Lady had no authority to issue such directives to a sitting governor. The Osun State government has not yet commented on the growing controversy.

  • Senate Approves Life Imprisonment for Defilement of Minors.

The Nigerian Senate has approved life imprisonment with no option of fine for anyone found guilty of defiling a minor, marking a tougher stance against child sexual abuse.

During plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio distinguished defilement from rape, insisting that offences involving minors deserve heavier punishment.

“Defilement of a minor should be different from that of rape; those involved in defilement should suffer greater punishment. I promise that it should be 20 years if you defile an underage,” Akpabio said, adding that he had witnessed many cases involving children aged five to ten years.

He then invited contributions from lawmakers. Senator Adamu Aliero proposed that the minimum sentence for defilement be fixed at 20 years, stressing that offenders should not be given any option of fine.

In a stronger recommendation, Senator Sunday Adeleke called for life imprisonment, citing countries like India and Pakistan that treat defilement as a capital offence. He argued that Nigeria must demonstrate zero tolerance for such crimes.

After deliberation, the Senate unanimously adopted the motion, resolving that any man or woman who engages in sexual intercourse with a minor will face life imprisonment without the possibility of a fine.

Lawmakers noted that the resolution reflects the National Assembly’s determination to protect children and curb the rising cases of sexual violence across the country. The Senate President described the decision as a step toward restoring dignity, justice, and moral responsibility within Nigerian society.

  • Osun Govt, APC Clash Over Alleged ₦300 Million Scandal Involving Female Permanent Secretary

The political atmosphere in Osun State has once again heated up as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Osun State Government trade accusations over an alleged ₦300 million corruption scandal said to involve a senior female civil servant.

In a statement released by Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of shielding a female Permanent Secretary allegedly caught embezzling state funds.

According to the opposition, the current administration’s “administrative hollowness” has allowed some political appointees to loot public resources unchecked.

“Why is the Adeleke government, which preaches accountability and rule of law, protecting a Permanent Secretary who allegedly embezzled over ₦300 million?” the APC queried.

The APC also claimed the state government was secretly managing the issue, arranging for the accused to repay the funds instead of facing prosecution. The party urged the EFCC and Nigeria Police to intervene, alleging that the implicated civil servant is the wife of a serving commissioner in the Adeleke cabinet.

However, in a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the allegations as “beer parlour gossip elevated to party propaganda,” insisting that no such scandal exists.

“There is no ₦300 million scam in any Osun government ministry or agency. Governor Adeleke runs a transparent and accountable administration,” Rasheed stated.

He accused the APC of spreading lies to distract the public, emphasizing that the state’s procurement law and due process system make such corruption “impossible.”

Rasheed further warned that the government might take legal action against those behind the “libellous” claims, reaffirming Adeleke’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

“Governor Adeleke has never and will never shield any corrupt official. Transparency remains the hallmark of his government,” he concluded.

  • Osun Monarchs Appeal to Adeleke Over Alleged Plot to Reverse Their Elevation

Two newly elevated traditional rulers in Osun State have raised concerns over a purported attempt by officials of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to revoke their appointments.

The monarchs—Olokeolooru Obalufon of Okeolooru Obalufon, Oba Adebisi Mukaila Michael, and Onirante of Irante, Oba Ogundele Olasunkanmi Mathew—were elevated to Part II Obas by Governor Ademola Adeleke during the state executive council meeting on Friday, September 12, 2025, according to a letter from their counsel, Sulaiman Akano.

Before their elevation, the two monarchs served as community chiefs (Baale) under the Akinfin Traditional Council in Boluwaduro Local Government. Reports indicate that each monarch paid N500,000 to cover the presentation of their staff of office and instrument of appointment.

However, a few days after receiving their appointment letters and staff of office, the monarchs were allegedly informed of a plan by some ministry officials to reverse their elevation.

In a letter dated September 23, addressed to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, their counsel urged Governor Adeleke to intervene and prevent any attempt to annul the appointments.

    The letter stated in part:

“After our clients were duly screened and cleared by both the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, approved their elevation to Part II (Recognised Status) under the Chief’s Law (Cap. 25) Laws of Osun State 2002 during the EXCO meeting held on September 12, 2025.
Our clients received appointment letters on September 15 and were presented with their staff of office on September 16. The elevation was gazetted in the Osun State of Nigeria Gazette on September 18, 2025.”

The letter further alleged that the Oluresi of Iresi is conspiring with some ministry officials to reverse the appointments. The counsel warned that such a move could spark unrest between the affected communities.

“The appointment and elevation of our clients were well received by their communities. Any attempt to reverse the appointments could trigger communal tension. We appeal to your office to caution and restrain the Oluresi of Iresi and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs from taking such action,” the letter added.

The counsel emphasized that the monarchs are prepared to take legal action against anyone involved in the alleged conspiracy if the matter is not addressed.

Attempts to reach Barr. Dosu Babatunde, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

Another X user, @iam_lexie_b, commented: “But you don tweet this thing before now!” In response, Dr Penking said: “I will tweet it as many times as possible until our law enforcement start holing everyone to the same standards.” Sharing his perspective, a user identified as Saint wrote: “LMAO, never been a fan of that line. isn’t the law under those who made them and can change them so meaning law makers (wealth) are above the law.” Another user, Ovbiola, added: “Once ya get money for Africa ya ball hard and ya fart on the dam law. • Reactions As Adeleke Awards N678m For Reconstruction Of Ede Shrine.

Reactions have trailed the award of a N678 million contract for the reconstruction of the Sango-Timi Shrine and Grove at the palace of Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal, by the Osun State Government.

A document sighted by OSUN DEFENDER showed that the Sango-Timi Shrine and Grove was one of the contracts awarded by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

Reacting to the development, the Coordinator, Centre for Social Justice and Public Protection (CSJPP), Akin Akanji, slammed the state government for awarding such an amount to the reconstruction of the shrine.

Akanji said other critical sectors needed the attention of the state government, accusing Governor Adeleke of not getting his priorities right.

He said, “It is indeed sad. This government is drifting away from reality day by day, and unfortunately, the people of Osun are the ones suffering the consequences.

“The state education, agriculture, and youth sector is begging for a major revamp, and while the government is shouting that there is no fund due to the seizure of local government allocations, it is awarding over N600 million to reconstruct a shrine.

“The question we should ask is, would Adeleke have approved that contract if it were in another town? His over-concentration on Ede is getting out of control.

“Adeleke should not forget that he is the governor of Osun State and not Ede, and people are watching. This is Osun taxpayers money, and he is behaving as if Ede is the only town in the state. He should be cautioned by those who genuinely love him.”

  • Osun Governor Orders Action On Ipetumodu Stool After Monarch’s US Fraud Conviction

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dosu Babatunde, to take swift action on the Ipetumodu throne crisis following the jailing of the community’s monarch, Oba Joseph Oloyede, in the United States for COVID-19 loan fraud.

Oba Oloyede, the 27th Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, was convicted in Ohio for fraudulently accessing U.S. pandemic loan schemes between April 2020 and February 2022. He was sentenced to over four years in prison, ordered to forfeit assets, and pay $4.4 million in restitution.

His conviction has split the Ipetumodu community, with some insisting the stool remain vacant until his return, while others are demanding an immediate replacement. A recent meeting of princes reportedly ended in chaos after disagreement on whether to declare the throne vacant.

Governor Adeleke addressed the issue at Friday’s State Executive Council meeting, alongside other policy matters including ICT expansion, youth agropreneurship, sports development, and climate change initiatives.
