  • EXCLUSIVE: How 26 Pro-Wike Rivers Lawmakers Collected ₦350m Each For Projects Never Done

At least 26 Rivers State lawmakers loyal to former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, reportedly received ₦350 million each for constituency projects that were never executed.

Documents obtained by SaharaReporters show that the funds — totaling about ₦10.5 billion — were approved and released on September 12, 2025, during the period of emergency rule in Rivers State.

Sources within the Rivers State Government House revealed that none of the projects were carried out in the affected constituencies. Investigations also found that many of the companies nominated to handle the projects were inactive, dormant, or suspected to be shell companies.

  • ADC Wahala: Ondo Chapter Descends Into Chaos As Faction Hijacks Party Structure

Ondo State ADC don enter gbege as faction led by Prof. Bode Ayorinde allegedly hijacks party structures, sidelining authentic members. Former governorship candidate Barrister Myson Nejo accused the group—mainly ex-PDP members—of trying to dominate the party instead of collaborating, sparking tension ahead of 2027 elections.

Nejo claimed Ayorinde declared himself State Coordinator, ignored the state chairman, and packed meetings with loyalists, causing confusion and resistance. He stressed that the move lacks approval from the national leadership and accused the faction of supporting individual ambitions over the party’s growth.

Nejo urged Ayorinde to formally join ADC before any stakeholder meetings, promising a roundtable discussion to restore unity and ensure a democratic, inclusive path forward.

  • Eya : Ogun State is in deep mourning as former First Lady, Mama Lucia Onabanjo, passes on at the ripe age of 101. President Bola Tinubu has also reacted to the painful loss, describing her as a woman of compassion, humility, and strong support for her late husband, former Governor Victor Olabisi Onabanjo. In his condolence message, Tinubu sympathised with the Onabanjo family, friends, and all those whose lives Mama Lucia touched, praising her lifelong dedication to women, children, and community service. He noted that her kindness and charitable works would continue to speak even in death, urging the Ogun State government to immortalise her legacy. Since the news broke, Nigerians have taken to social media to express sorrow, share memories of her generosity, and pray for her soul. Many described her as a rare public figure who lived simply among the people despite her status. Truly, this is a painful exit for a woman many called “our mama.” May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

  • Did Abdulfatah Ahmed Divert ₦5.78 Billion UBEC Funds? Why Kwara Court Adjourned Ex-Governor’s Fraud Trial to February 16

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has adjourned the ₦5.78 billion alleged fraud trial of former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and his former Commissioner for Finance, Ademola Banu, raising fresh questions about how public education funds were allegedly diverted under the previous administration. The case, which resumed before Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar, was postponed to February 16, 2026, following legal objections during the presentation of evidence by the prosecution.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Ilorin Zonal Directorate, is prosecuting the former officials over claims that funds meant for educational development were unlawfully redirected. According to the EFCC, the defendants approved the use of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) matching grants—money specifically allocated for building and upgrading primary and junior secondary schools across Kwara’s 16 local government areas—to pay civil servants’ salaries, contrary to the conditions attached to the funds.

During the latest hearing, the prosecution called its sixth witness, Stanley Ujilibo, who told the court that the EFCC obtained bank statements from Polaris Bank (formerly Skye Bank) and Guaranty Trust Bank as part of its investigation. He explained that official letters dated August 1, 2025, were sent to both banks requesting records of Kwara State Government accounts. The banks acknowledged the requests and provided the statements, which were admitted as exhibits by the court.

The trial further revisited earlier testimony by a former Accountant-General of Kwara State, Suleiman Oluwadare Ishola, who stated that ₦1 billion from UBEC matching grants was borrowed in 2015 by the Ahmed administration to pay salaries and pensions. This revelation has intensified public scrutiny over whether funds intended for school infrastructure were systematically diverted for recurrent government expenses.

However, proceedings were briefly stalled when the EFCC attempted to tender additional documents from the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General. Defence counsel, led by Kamaldeen Ajibade, objected on procedural grounds, arguing that the documents had not been properly highlighted for clarity and reference. Justice Abdulgafar upheld the objection and consequently adjourned the case.

The adjournment has sparked debate across Kwara State and beyond: Was public education funding sacrificed to cover salary obligations? Did the former administration violate the terms governing UBEC grants? And will the evidence presented be enough to establish criminal responsibility?

As the trial continues, the case stands as a major test of accountability in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts, particularly regarding the management of education funds and the prosecution of high-profile political figures.

  • Is Ebonyi Government Threatening Community Land and Mineral Rights? Host Communities Petition Gov. Nwifuru Over Nigercem Dispute

Host communities of the Nigerian Cement Company (Nigercem Plc) in Ebonyi State have petitioned Governor Francis Nwifuru over what they describe as growing threats to their land, mineral resources and legally established rights. The communities, through a petition dated January 7, 2026 and signed by Dr. Sulaiman Usman, SAN, accused unnamed political actors of attempting to undermine existing court judgments and community consents under the pretext of building a new state-owned cement plant.

In the petition addressed to the governor at the Ebonyi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the communities warned that recent developments could “gravely prejudice” their proprietary rights and destabilize the lawful future of Nigercem Plc. They recalled that Ibeto Group lawfully acquired majority shares in Nigercem in 2010, but that the Ebonyi State Government under former Governor Martin Elechi allegedly revoked the company’s mining lease, a move they resisted through litigation.

According to the petition, prolonged court battles ended in 2013 with judgments in favour of Ibeto Group and the host communities. The communities said they supported the investor because earlier plans to site a new cement plant outside their area would have reduced them to mere limestone suppliers without benefiting from the economic and social gains of hosting a functioning cement factory.

While welcoming Governor Nwifuru’s campaign pledge to work with Ibeto Group to revive Nigercem, the communities expressed disappointment that a 15-member committee set up in August 2025 has yet to publicly present its findings. Their concerns deepened after the governor announced plans during the 2026 budget presentation to borrow ₦150 billion to build a new state-owned cement plant, despite the existence of Nigercem Plc.

The petition further alleged that some political office holders from the host clan were pressured on December 31, 2025, to sign a fresh consent letter purportedly revoking earlier agreements with Ibeto Group. The communities described this development as “deeply unsettling,” adding that the proposed site for the new plant lacks commercially viable limestone deposits and would still depend on resources from their land.

They also rejected what they called an “unauthorised and self-appointed committee” allegedly acting in their name, warning that they would resist any attempt to reduce Nigercem to a mere limestone excavation zone or to bypass existing legal rights through political manipulation.

In their appeal, the communities urged Governor Nwifuru to halt any action affecting ownership, mineral rights or control of Nigercem Plc and to convene an inclusive town hall meeting involving traditional rulers, professionals, youth and women groups, religious leaders and other stakeholders to transparently determine the company’s future.

As of the time of filing, the Ebonyi State Government had not issued an official response. However, the communities said they remain open to dialogue, expressing confidence in the governor’s sense of justice and statesmanship.

The unfolding dispute raises critical questions about resource control, investor confidence, community rights, and state-government intervention in Nigeria’s extractive sector. Observers warn that failure to address the grievances transparently could trigger renewed legal battles and social tensions in Ebonyi State.

  • Actor Dr Don Pedro Obaseki Abd¥cted, Str+pped, and H¥miliated while playing football

Nigerian actor and cultural advocate, Dr Don Pedro Obaseki, has recounted a harrowing experience of abd¥ction, a+sa¥lt, and public h¥miliation by a group of men who dragged him to the Oba of Benin Palace on Sunday in Benin City.

Speaking to African Independent Television (AIT), Obaseki said the incident occurred around 11:00–11:30 a.m. while playing football with Uwa All Stars at Uwa Primary School. He described how ass+ilants, some armed, suddenly invaded the ground, abd¥cted him, and forcibly dragged him through several streets including Igbesawan Street, Akpakpava Road, and Ring Road where he was stri+ped n@ked in public before being taken to the palace premises. Obaseki, a cousin of former Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki, said the att@ckers claimed they were sent by the palace but failed to show any form of identification when requested.

“I begged them to show me some form of ID, of course not. I was dragged, beaten severely, manhandled… and taken into the palace,” he explained. The actor said the ordeal left him tra¥matized, especially given his lifelong contributions to Benin culture.

Following the incident, he was taken to a police station along Oba Market Road, where the Edo State Commissioner of Police intervened, personally visiting him multiple times before ordering his release.

Obaseki revealed that the alleged offence stemmed from comments he made during a recent visit to London, where he wished “Edo gha to’kperewa” (“May Edo people live long and prosper”) instead of “Oba gha to’kpere” (“May the Oba live long and prosper”), which he was told constituted a serious cultural violation.

Public outrage has continued to grow, with calls for accountability and a full investigation into the actions of those involved in the as+a¥lt and abd¥ction. The incident occurs against the backdrop of long-standing tension between the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, and former Governor Godwin Obaseki, particularly over disputes surrounding cultural heritage, administration of Benin artifacts, and traditional authority in Edo State.

  • VIDEO: Thugs Allegedly Acting for Benin Traditional Council Assault, Strip Actor Don Pedro Obaseki, Drag Him to Palace Over ‘Disrespect’ Claims

Nigerian actor Dr Don Pedro Obaseki was allegedly seized, stripped, and assaulted by a group of youths said to be acting on behalf of the Benin Traditional Council over claims that he disrespected the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II. The incident, captured in a viral video, showed the actor stripped to his boxers, forced to kneel and crawl within the Benin Kingdom Palace premises before being taken inside to meet palace officials. Sources said the action was linked to Obaseki’s recent participation in a London event organised in honour of his cousin, former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, who has been at the centre of a long-running dispute with the Benin Palace. The controversy is rooted in years of tension between the former governor and the Oba over control of repatriated Benin artefacts, traditional authority, and alleged withholding of statutory allocations to the Benin Traditional Council. The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed debate over the use of mob action, traditional authority, and the limits of cultural enforcement in Nigeria.

BELLO TURJI SPEAKS, AND NIGERIA STANDS ACCUSED

    By
    Sa'adiyyah Adebisi Hassan

What does it mean when a country’s Minister of Defence becomes the subject of a public rebuttal by a self-confessed terrorist?

What do we call a nation where a mass murderer feels confident enough to issue a sermon, clarify figures, confirm negotiations, and invoke God while the state watches in silence?

    Nigeria no longer needs analysts.
    Nigeria now has testimony.

FULL STATEMENT BY BELLO TURJI (UNEDITED, QUOTED IN FULL)

Bello Turji, a globally wanted terrorist leader responsible for mass killings, kidnappings, and terror across Nigeria’s North-West, released a video message. Below is his statement quoted word for word, from A to Z, as spoken:

“In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

People of the world, I greet you with the Islamic greeting: Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.

My Muslim brothers and sisters in Nigeria and across West Africa, I wish you well. I do not need to mention my name, everyone knows who I am. I am Muhammad Bello Turji.

We make demands on the government, and if the government listens and changes its ways, by Allah, there will be peace. But if the government refuses, then by Allah, you know who I am. I am Bello Turji.

I am here to send a message to those who have turned our lives in Nigeria into dust. They keep killing us, and they keep arguing among themselves, blaming one another for what is happening.

I listened to the confession of Musa Kamarawa, who does not know what he is doing. This same Musa is claiming he has evidence, especially after Matawalle sued the cleric Murtala Asada.

Musa Kamarawa, by your own words you have now admitted that you are a terrorist like us. Yes, I agree that the Zamfara State Government under Matawalle asked you to act as an intermediary between us and the government in order to negotiate peace. But about three percent of what you are saying is a lie.

You claimed that we came to the Government House and that Matawalle gave me ₦30 million. I swear by Allah, since the day I was born, Matawalle has never given me even ₦5 million. I am not here to defend Matawalle.

In this world, the person I hate most is Matawalle. During his tenure as governor, there was a day when we buried 70 people - men, women, and children - killed by a bomb blast. It was also during his tenure that my father was unjustly arrested and sent to prison. You know this very well. So tell me, how can I love Matawalle?

However, I will not allow you to use my name to defame someone or lie against anyone. Yes, during Matawalle’s era, negotiations took place. Anything you say, I can defend myself alongside the late Kachalla Halilu, who is no longer alive.

Musa, you are a hypocrite. You claimed Matawalle gave us ₦30 million - were you the one who held the money? I am a witness. Morsidi and I went to see Matawalle, but he did not give me even ₦3 million. I swear to Allah.

You also spoke about dusa. The dusa was given after negotiations, when we agreed to stop killing and the government also agreed to stop killing us. Your committee was given the responsibility to buy the dusa, at ₦650,000 per bag.

Musa, you do not fear Allah. You are a bad person. Even if Matawalle is killed today and only you are left, you will not live forever. Fear Allah, Musa Kamarawa. Fear Allah.

If terrorists are truly what the authorities are looking for, then they should arrest your godfathers - the former governor of Sokoto State and Yarima. We have heard that what is happening in Zamfara and Sokoto began with them. Were they not the ones who destroyed Fulani houses? Were they not the ones who created local vigilante groups to kill Fulani people?

Musa Kamarawa, you know me and I know you. The house you live in, in Isa Local Government - about one kilometre away - was it not your godfather who bought Fulani settlements and cleared them? Yet you still ask who brought trouble to Zamfara? Your godfathers are the source.

    Subhanallahi, wa iyyazu billahi.

Before Matawalle became governor - during Shehi’s era - who then was sponsoring us ? We come from Rabbil ‘Alamin, from Almighty Allah. No one is bankrolling us.

If you are attempting blackmail, know this: no one can use us for politics. We have nothing to do with politicians. No one can use me to blackmail anyone.

Matawalle cheated me, and I leave him to Rabbil ‘Alamin.”

    That is the full statement.
    Nothing added. Nothing removed.

    WHAT THIS CONFESSION ACTUALLY MEANS

Strip away the religious language and personal grudges, and what remains is devastating:

    1. A terrorist publicly admits to negotiations with a state government.

    2. He confirms intermediaries were officially used.

    3. He confirms material items (“dusa”) were provided after negotiations.

    4. He disputes amounts - not the act itself.

    This is not denial.
This is damage control between criminals and power.

INTERNATIONAL LAW: THIS IS TERRORISM FINANCING - FULL STOP

Under international law, none of this is ambiguous.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373

    Criminalizes:

Direct or indirect support to terrorist groups

Provision of funds, goods, food, or logistics

    Negotiations that involve material benefit

There is no “peace talks” exception when:

    terrorists remain armed,

    no formal disarmament occurs,

    and killings continue.

    Financial Action Task Force (FATF)

    Defines terrorism financing as:

“The provision or collection of funds or assets, directly or indirectly, with the intention or knowledge that they be used by a terrorist organisation.”

Food, vehicles, cash, livestock feed - all qualify as assets.

    Comparative Reality

In Colombia, officials went to prison for negotiating with FARC.

In Italy, governments collapsed over mafia talks.

In Pakistan, ministers were removed for “contacts.”

In France or the UK, a defence official would be suspended within hours.

In Nigeria, a terrorist clarifies the deal on video.

THE MOST DAMNING PART: THE CONFIDENCE

Bello Turji did not hide. He did not run. He did not whisper.

He spoke calmly. He invoked God. He corrected records. He warned others.

    That confidence is not accidental.

It comes from a system that has lost its fear of law.

THIS IS STATE FAILURE IN REAL TIME

This is no longer about politics. Not about parties. Not about religion.

This is about whether Nigeria still qualifies as a sovereign state under international norms.

    When terrorists speak like insiders,
    when defence officials remain untouched,
    when confessions meet silence,

the world draws its own conclusions.

Nigeria is crying and the evidence is speaking for itself.

  • Obaseki: God Will Punish Leaders Who Use Power for Themselves, Not the People

Godwin Obaseki, former governor of Edo State, has warned that politicians who use power for personal gain rather than public service will face divine punishment. In a video shared on his official X page, Obaseki said politics should be about improving lives, not acquiring power for selfish reasons.

According to him, leaders who enrich themselves and their close associates after attaining office betray both God and the people. He described political power as a divine trust that must be used in service to humanity and to glorify God.

“If you are in politics to get power, and you get the power and it’s only for you and your friends and the people close to you, then God will punish you,” he said. Obaseki added that failing to use power in line with God’s purpose is a serious moral failure. “Because if God has given you power, and you cannot use that power directly for Him, glorify Him, then I don’t see how you will do it,” he stated.

Reflecting on his time in office, the former governor said he had no regrets and would not change his approach if given another chance. “What would I do differently if I had another opportunity? Nothing. I will do it in the same way… even quicker and faster,” he said, noting that he wished some education reforms had started earlier to produce more visible results.

He also explained that his backing of a successor was intentional, aimed at ensuring continuity of policies and reforms. Obaseki warned that dismantling programmes introduced by his administration would ultimately hurt ordinary citizens, not former leaders. “You add to what you met, not destroy it,” he said, stressing that removing social services like health insurance and hospitals would only deepen the suffering of the people.

  • Banditry Victims’ Families Urge Tinubu to Probe Alleged Links of Ex-Governors Yerima and Bafarawa to Northwest Insecurity

Families affected by years of deadly banditry in Northwest Nigeria have petitioned President Bola Tinubu, seeking an investigation into allegations that former governors Ahmed Sani Yerima (Zamfara) and Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto) contributed to the region’s insecurity. The Coalition of Families Affected by Banditry highlighted the loss of lives, homes, and livelihoods from sustained attacks across Zamfara, Sokoto, and neighbouring states. The petition was prompted by claims from notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, who alleged that policies under the former governors, including the seizure of grazing reserves and arming of vigilante groups, fueled ethnic tensions and cycles of reprisal violence. The coalition urged an impartial probe, with potential international oversight, to ensure accountability and break the cycle of violence.

  • Nigeria Dangerously Sliding Into One-Party State Under APC, Ex-Niger Governor Babangida Aliyu Warns PDP Leaders

Former Niger State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Former Governors’ Forum, Babangida Aliyu, has warned that Nigeria is systematically drifting toward a one-party state under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at an interactive meeting between the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and the Former Ministers’ Forum, Aliyu expressed concern over shrinking political space, induced defections, and the alleged weaponisation of state institutions against opposition voices. He described these developments as a direct threat to democracy and citizens’ freedoms. Aliyu reaffirmed the support of former PDP governors for the party’s new leadership under National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), who in turn defended the PDP’s 16-year record in government, citing economic reforms, debt relief, institutional strengthening, and anti-corruption frameworks as evidence of competent governance. Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau also endorsed the NWC, urging it to sustain efforts at rebuilding and repositioning the opposition party.

  • Our Mandate Is To Tackle Corruption, not Opposition Politicians - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it will not scummbed to the accusations by some political actors across the country, questioning its operation.

A statement by the head of media and publicity of the commission says a check list of arrests and prosecution by the EFCC in the last two years shows that strong members of the ruling party such as former governors, ministers and others not publicly known are sharing tables with a number of some opposition politicians as well.

The commission says what threatens democracy is not the EFCC doing its job, but the attempt to intimidate or blackmail it into abandoning investigating allegations of corruption against politicians in the opposition for fear of accusations of selectivity.

The Commission won't succumb to blackmail into inconclusive investigations just to be seen to be non- selective in its operations.
