Entrepreneur Jean-Louis Billon finished a distant second with 3.09 percent of the vote, according to the commission’s president, Ibrahime Kuibiert Coulibaly. Turnout stood at 50.10 percent — similar to the 2020 election, when Ouattara won 94 percent amid an opposition boycott.

Madagascar’s new government has revoked the citizenship of ousted President Andry Rajoelina, according to media reports, just 10 days after he was removed from power in a military takeover.

A decree published in the country’s official gazette on Friday stated that Rajoelina’s Malagasy nationality was withdrawn because he had acquired French citizenship in 2014.

The decision, confirmed by French broadcaster RFI through the entourage of the new Prime Minister, Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo, was made in accordance with laws stipulating that any Malagasy who voluntarily obtains another nationality automatically loses their own.

The decree effectively bars Rajoelina, who was impeached on October 14 after fleeing the country amid weeks of anti-government protests, from contesting future elections.

Rajoelina’s dual nationality first sparked controversy ahead of the November 2023 elections, nearly a decade after his French citizenship was revealed.

The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has advised residents, especially celebrities, to stop giving money to miscreants.

This was after a video showed the moment singer Burna Boy was leaving a Lagos night club in the morning.

The singer was in a McLaren super car, while the other vehicles in his convoy included a Cybertruck, Roll Royce, G-Wagon, etc. The convoy was preceeded by a van with armed security officers.

Despite the security presence, some miscreants couldn't help but try to finesse Burna Boy for some money as they kept doffing their hats and chanting his name while running after the convoy.

This infuriated an X user, @aje_olukay, who said, "The state needs to station the men of the Lagos State Neighborhood Watch to help & protect motorists from the harassment, extortion, assault & intimidation by the many homeless boys & teenagers along that corridor, they are all a menace to us all."

In response, Commissioner Wahab urged celebrities to stop giving such people money because doing so emboldens them to keep up with the act.

Following the renovation, the entire school was repainted, with new furniture provided for the students. The staff room, toilets, and drainage system were fully refurbished, and in some cases, rebuilt from scratch.

ASUU Members Resume Work As FG Pays June Salaries.

The Federal Government on Tuesday released the long-awaited June 2025 salaries of lecturers and other staff in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, prompting chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to instruct their members to return to work.

Naija News reports that the payment ends weeks of tension and a “no-pay-no-work” stance adopted by several ASUU chapters following five consecutive months of delayed salaries.


The delays were reportedly caused by the migration of academic staff from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) to the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), a process overseen by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

According to Punch, at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, the ASUU branch chairperson, Haruna Angulu, confirmed that lecturers had resumed their duties after the June salaries were credited to their accounts.

Similarly, the ASUU chapter at the Federal University of Kashere issued a memo directing members to resume academic activities, citing the release of salaries.

At the University of Jos, a circular from the institution’s bursary department confirmed the payment of delayed wages, which led to the reversal of the earlier work boycott by the lecturers.

Education Minister Attributes Stability To Dialogue
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the current atmosphere of stability across tertiary institutions was the result of sustained dialogue.

“It is not by coincidence that Nigerian public tertiary institutions have remained open and stable for the past two years, something that has not happened in several decades,” the Minister stated in Abuja on Tuesday.

He attributed the peace to sustained dialogue, mutual respect, and the Tinubu administration’s commitment to resolving longstanding issues affecting both academic and non-academic staff.
