Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Rejects Tinubu’s Political Structure, Vows Never to Align for Lagos Governorship

Labour Party (LP) chieftain and 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has firmly ruled out any possibility of aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s political structure in his future pursuit of the Lagos governorship seat.

Speaking on Sunday Politics (Channels TV, September 7, 2025), GRV described such an alliance as a “complete waste of time”, insisting it would contradict his values and his mission for Lagosians.

“No, I will rather go and focus on my business, my work, and my family. Aligning with Tinubu will be a complete waste of time,” he stated.

According to Rhodes-Vivour, politics should be about restoring Lagos to its former glory and deploying public resources for the collective good — not serving entrenched political interests.

He added:

“The reason why we are in politics is to make the lives of Lagosians better. Any party that will not allow me to maximise the commonwealth of Lagos for the people is a waste of time.”

GRV’s strong stance comes amid early political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a clear rejection of the APC structure that has dominated Lagos politics for decades.

His remarks are expected to intensify political debates as opposition forces strategize on how to challenge the ruling bloc in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
