Peter Obi Blasts Tinubu Over Foreign Trips: “Nigerians Are Dying, Not the Time for Holidays!”
Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has once again criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for embarking on yet another foreign trip — a 10-day “working leave” to the United Kingdom and France.
Obi, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), condemned the president’s constant absence from Nigeria, noting that Tinubu left the country just six days after returning from a 15-day trip abroad.
According to Obi, at a time when Nigeria is battling hunger, insecurity, poverty, and multiple tragedies, the president should be at home showing empathy and leadership instead of prioritizing holidays.
“No holiday is more important than the Nigerian lives you swore to protect. At a time when Nigerians need leadership, empathy, and presence, a president should not choose foreign holidays,” Obi wrote.
He highlighted pressing issues Tinubu should have addressed instead of flying out again:
Over 180 million Nigerians (79%) facing food insecurity.
Nigeria ranked as the worst country to give birth and one of the worst places to live.
50 killed and 60 kidnapped in Katsina attacks last month.
60 women and children dead in a recent Niger State boat mishap.
Obi stressed that true leadership demands sacrifice, compassion, and action, urging Tinubu to focus on healthcare, education, security, and poverty reduction.
“Mr. President could have at least visited the grieving families in Niger before jetting off again. Where is the compassion for Nigerian lives?” Obi asked.
Meanwhile, the Presidency defended Tinubu’s trip, with spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirming that the president’s 10-day annual leave will be spent between France and the UK.
