The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) cannot be printed or collected outside its offices, even after online pre-registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
INEC’s Director of ICT, Bayode Lawrence, explained that online registration only allows applicants to submit basic details, but physical presence at designated centres is required to capture fingerprints and other biometrics before a PVC can be issued.
He stressed that the measure is aimed at protecting the integrity of the voter register and preventing manipulation or duplication.
Lawrence added that INEC is working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to integrate data from the national identity database into future registration exercises.
He also noted that voters without internet access can register physically at INEC local government offices, while those with damaged cards can apply for replacements through the commission’s portal.
