Kabiyesi Was More Than a Royal Father to Me” – Tinubu Pays Tribute to Late Awujale
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, describing him as more than just a royal father — but a confidante and source of unwavering wisdom.
In a statement shared on Sunday via X, the President mourned the monarch, whose death came just hours apart from that of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Kabiyesi was more than a royal father to me. He was a confidante, a guide, and a man of truth whose wisdom never failed to steady those who sought it,” Tinubu wrote.
He praised the revered traditional ruler’s 65-year reign as one defined by dignity, courage, and deep devotion to his people, noting that Oba Adetona's passing has left a great void in Nigeria’s traditional institutions, especially in Yorubaland.
Tinubu, who attended the monarch’s eighth-day Fidau prayers in Ijebu-Ode, highlighted the Awujale’s lasting legacy of leadership, integrity, and service.
“His voice, leadership, and generosity will echo far beyond Ijebuland,” Tinubu added.
He concluded his tribute by praying for Allah’s mercy on the late monarch and comfort for those mourning his loss.
