Exclusive: Nigerian Soldier Who Married Eight Months Ago Killed by Boko Haram Explosives in Borno

Lance Corporal Alhaji Mal Idris Alkali Musa, a Special Forces infantry soldier who married just eight months ago, was among nine Nigerian soldiers killed by Boko Haram explosives in Borno State. The attack occurred near Gubio while soldiers were returning from Maiduguri. Several others were injured in the blast, which was caused by planted improvised explosive devices (IEDs), not a gunmen ambush.

Alkali Musa, born March 3, 1999, joined the Nigerian Army in 2022 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on November 25, 2025. Colleagues described him as disciplined, principled, and a morale booster during deployments. He married Hajiya Mal Idris Alkali Musa on April 11, 2025.

The incident involved soldiers from 145 Damasak under 5 Brigade, and fatalities continued to rise after the initial explosion. Tributes for the fallen soldier hailed him as “a GREAT MAN” whose death has left his comrades devastated.
