Akwa Ibom Health Centre in Ruins: Patients Rely on Pit Toilet, Urgent Intervention Needed from Governor Umo Eno

MonITNG has raised alarm over the dire condition of Ikot Obio Edim Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Akwa Ibom State. The facility suffers severe infrastructural decay, including leaking roofs, collapsing ceilings, termite-damaged doors, and a disorganized theatre. It has only two worn-out beds, no proper sanitation, and parts of the ward are used for storage, forcing patients to wait in the outpatient area.

Serving more than seven communities, the PHC’s inadequate state endangers vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and children. MonITNG called on Governor Umo Eno to urgently renovate the facility, provide proper toilets, equip it adequately, and ensure health funds reach rural communities.
