The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced plans to upgrade major stadiums across Nigeria to world-class standards by engaging elite European contractors responsible for pitches at top clubs such as Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus. NSC Chairman, Malam Shehu Dikko, disclosed that renovation will begin with the Abuja National Stadium before extending to Ibadan, Kaduna, Lagos and possibly Uyo in phases. He explained that the new pitches would meet the same specifications and technology currently used at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, positioning Nigeria’s sporting infrastructure to host international competitions. Dikko added that although procedural delays slowed the project, all inspections and preparations have been completed, marking a major milestone in transforming Nigeria’s sports facilities to international best practices.
