Grenade Explosion During Cleaning Exercise Injures Female Soldier, Two Children Inside Nasarawa Residential Compound

A routine cleaning exercise turned tragic in Maraba, Nasarawa State, after a hand grenade detonated inside a residential compound along Abacha Road, leaving a female Nigerian soldier and two children seriously injured. Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosive device had been stored in the apartment for about three years by an unidentified soldier who previously served in Nigeria’s North-East. The grenade reportedly exploded after a woman unknowingly brought it outside and asked the injured soldier to help identify it. The victims were rushed to multiple medical facilities, with authorities confirming that the soldier’s condition has stabilised as investigations continue into how the weapon was left behind.
