Alleged Organ Harvesting Scandal: Ekiti Government Dismisses EKSUTH Surgeon, Suspends Surgical Team, Approves New Kidney Transplant for Patient

The Ekiti State Government has taken decisive action following allegations of organ harvesting at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), dismissing the surgeon who led a controversial kidney surgery and suspending other members of the surgical team. The decision followed the submission of findings by a seven-member Panel of Enquiry investigating claims by patient Joshua Afolayan, who alleged that both his kidneys were removed without consent during surgery. In response, the state approved a fresh kidney transplant and two years of post-transplant medical care for the patient, ordered a reorganisation of key hospital departments, and pledged wide-ranging reforms to strengthen clinical governance, accountability, and public confidence in Ekiti’s healthcare system.
