Report Raises Alarm as Killer Herdsmen Camps Are Discovered in Enugu Communities, Urges Urgent Nigerian Government Action

A security report by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has raised serious concerns after the alleged discovery of more than 20 organised killer herdsmen camps in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. According to the report, the camps are spread across several communities, including Imezi-Owa, Agu-obu-Owa, Olo, Mgbagbu-Owa and Oghe, and are said to operate through a layered command structure linked to long-running violent attacks since 2010. Intersociety warned that the presence of the camps has devastated local farming economies, polluted the Ajali River, and fuelled insecurity, killings and displacement. The organisation has called on the Nigerian government and security agencies to urgently investigate the allegations and dismantle the camps to restore safety and livelihoods in the affected communities.
