Bandits Attack Sokoto Deputy Governor’s Ancestral Village, Residents Flee Amid Gunfire

Armed bandits invaded Idi community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, on December 15, 2025, firing sporadic gunshots and forcing villagers to flee. The village is the ancestral home of Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idris Muhammad Gobir. Sabon-Birni, bordering Zamfara State, has been a recurring hotspot for banditry, kidnappings, and cattle rustling despite repeated government assurances. At the time of reporting, it was unclear whether there were casualties or abductions. The incident has intensified concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the eastern axis of Sokoto State.
