Two Months After Niger Tanker Explosion, Victims Say Promised Relief From Governor Bago Never Arrived

Two months after the deadly tanker explosion in Essan community, Niger State, which claimed 39 lives and injured over 60, many victims report that Governor Umar Bago’s promised financial and medical support has not been delivered. Families were promised ₦1 million for each deceased victim, ₦500,000 for each injured victim, and full medical coverage, but survivors say they have been forced to leave hospitals due to unpaid bills. Residents also claim that local authorities have failed to provide additional support or condolences, while attempts to reach the state government for comment have gone unanswered.
