The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced that the explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) in Warri, Delta State, has been successfully contained, with no threat to host communities, personnel, or the environment. In a statement signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the company said coordinated containment measures were immediately implemented after the incident was reported on December 11, 2025.
NNPC Ltd. disclosed that all affected sections of the pipeline were safely isolated and that a joint preliminary inspection was carried out by teams from NNPC, the Nigeria Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and maintenance contractors. The pipeline operator, NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), has activated its Business Continuity Plan to manage impacts on shippers and suppliers while investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
