A federal grand jury has issued a 2-count indictment against a Ghanaian national accused of swindling elderly victims out of more than $8 million through romance scams.
According to the recently unsealed indictment, Frederick Kumi, also known as Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng and Abu Trica, 31, from Swedru, Ghana, was allegedly part of a criminal operation that targeted elderly Americans in romance fraud schemes beginning in 2023. Kumi was apprehended in Ghana on December 11, 2025.
