Speaking at an event, Johnson said it is “wonderful, absolutely wonderful that here in Nigeria we are united,” noting the nations’ deep connection through “ties of history and language” strengthened over many years.

He celebrated the ongoing exchange between both countries, emphasising the “to-ing and fro-ing of brilliant Nigerians to my country and back again, and British people coming to Nigeria.”

Johnson expressed pride in the UK’s exports, stating, “I’m proud, very proud, of what we export to Nigeria. We send you pharmaceuticals and bankers and services of all kinds… We send whiskey, huge quantities of whiskey.”

He equally acknowledged Nigeria’s contributions to the UK, adding, “And you send us so much in return. Oil and gas, Nollywood movies, brilliant, brilliant doctors, nurses, technicians, tech geniuses from Nigeria.”
