A police officer and a scavenger were killed on Wednesday in Ilubirin, inward Simpson on Lagos Island, after a speeding Toyota Camry driver lost control and rammed into both victims. LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said the officer was on a motorcycle when the vehicle veered off its lane, hitting him and the scavenger, killing them instantly. LASTMA personnel secured the scene and arrested the fleeing driver, who was handed over to the Adeniji Adele Police Division. The agency evacuated the vehicle and restored traffic flow.
