Ondo Community Leader’s Home Set Ablaze After Clash With Tantita Coordinator, Victim Accuses Police of Bias

Tension has erupted in Okitipupa, Ondo State, after the home of community leader Oloja Ayodele Omodogbe was allegedly torched hours following a confrontation with Idowu Asonja, the Ondo State Coordinator of Tantita Security Services—an oil pipeline protection firm owned by ex-militant Tompolo. Omodogbe said the conflict began when armed men accompanying Asonja forcefully broke into the residence of his CSO, assaulting him and causing panic. He alleged that Asonja later issued threats, boasting of his ability to kill without consequences. Around 1 a.m., part of Omodogbe’s home went up in flames, destroying cash, property, and a POS machine. The next morning, Omodogbe claims Asonja returned with escorts and openly admitted to burning the house in the presence of police officers, who allegedly failed to act. Audio evidence purportedly capturing threats from Asonja has emerged, but police response has been muted, with calls to the PPRO unanswered. Omodogbe has reported the matter to local authorities and the Jegun of Idepe Okitipupa, expressing fear for his life amid continued threats.
