Kaduna Govt Bars Journalists From Visiting Villages Left Empty By Bandit Attacks Amid False Claims Of Villagers’ Return –Report

The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Uba Sani, has reportedly directed security agencies to prevent journalists without official clearance from entering villages abandoned after bandit attacks. The move is believed to be a response to reporting by journalist Luka Binniyat, whose videos and articles contradicted the government’s narrative that its peace deal with bandits had restored security and enabled displaced residents to return home.

Binniyat’s field reports from deserted Christian Adara communities—such as Kujeni and more than 50 other affected villages—showed that residents have not returned, contrary to government claims, and that the areas remain unsafe and abandoned. He criticised the state’s decision to pardon and rehabilitate Fulani bandits, arguing that victims continue to suffer without support nearly two years later. Other journalists have also been stopped at checkpoints while attempting similar investigations, with access being granted primarily to media outlets seen as favourable to the government. In response to Binniyat’s reporting, the government has deployed politicians to the affected areas to counter his claims and defend its policies.
