Fubara Vows Strong Partnership With NDE To Boost Jobs In Rivers

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged full support for the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) as part of efforts to expand job creation and empower youth and women across the state.

The governor made the commitment while receiving NDE Director-General Silas Agara and his team at Government House, Port Harcourt. He commended President Bola Tinubu’s job-creation initiatives through the agency, saying sub-national governments must complement federal efforts.

Fubara recalled a personal testimony of his cousin who benefitted from NDE’s employment process three decades ago, describing it as proof of the agency’s credibility. He urged the NDE to maintain transparency as programmes roll out in the state.

He highlighted Rivers’ strategic economic position—home to major ports, international oil companies, and a growing population—and expressed confidence that the partnership would provide meaningful opportunities for citizens.

The governor welcomed the development of three NDE farm centres in the state and directed the Commissioner for Employment Generation, Chisom Gbali, to follow up. He stressed the importance of women-focused empowerment programmes and proposed a joint state-NDE taskforce to strengthen coordination.

Fubara also linked the initiative to his administration’s broader economic agenda, noting ongoing projects like the Ngo-Atlantic-Oyorokoto Road, expected to boost tourism, maritime investment, and job opportunities in the blue economy.

Earlier, Agara praised Fubara’s inclusive governance style and revealed that more than 90,000 Nigerians have benefitted from NDE programmes since 2024. He announced fresh training for 500 youths in Rivers, including persons with disabilities, and said the agency’s skill centres would be fully equipped by 2026.

Agara reaffirmed NDE’s commitment to working with the state to drive employment and investment.
