Akinwunmi Ambode is a Nigerian politician, accountant, and public administrator. He is best known for serving as the Governor of Lagos State from 2015 to 2019.
Early Life and Background
Akinwunmi Ambode whose full name is Akinwunmi Ambode was born on June 14, 1963, in Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria.
He grew up in Lagos where he developed a strong interest in leadership, education, and public service.
Education
Ambode attended St. Jude’s Primary School in Lagos for his early education. He later went to Federal Government College, Warri in Delta State for his secondary education.
After completing secondary school, he gained admission into the University of Lagos, where he studied Accounting.
He later obtained a Master’s degree in Accounting from the same university.
Career in Public Service
Akinwunmi Ambode joined the Lagos State Civil Service in 1988 as an accountant. Over the years, he worked in different government departments and gradually rose through the ranks.
His dedication and financial management skills helped him gain recognition within the Lagos State government.
Accountant General of Lagos State
In 2006, Ambode was appointed as the Accountant General of Lagos State. In this role, he was responsible for managing the state’s finances and ensuring proper financial accountability.
He served in that position until 2012 before retiring from the civil service.
Political Career
After leaving the civil service, Ambode entered politics. He joined the All Progressives Congress and became the party’s candidate for the 2015 Lagos State governorship election.
He won the election and became the Governor of Lagos State in 2015.
