Troops Dismantle Illegal Refineries, Seize 45,000 Litres of Stolen Petroleum Products in Niger Delta
Troops have intensified the crackdown on oil theft in the Niger Delta, dismantling nine makeshift refineries and seizing over 45,000 litres of stolen petroleum products in two weeks.
According to Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, 17 suspects were arrested in coordinated operations across Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States.
In Rivers, troops intercepted a Toyota 4Runner SUV loaded with 1,600 litres of diesel and uncovered vandalised pipelines with sacks of refined products. In Delta, a tanker truck with more than 10,000 litres of stolen diesel and a 20,000-litre storage hub were seized.
Similar raids in Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom led to the destruction of refining sites, interception of vehicles transporting illegal products, and disruption of supply routes.
The Army said the operations aim to safeguard national assets, curb economic sabotage, and protect the environment.
