Gumi Warns Nigerian Army, Security Agencies Against Provoking Terrorists After Katsina Peace Deal
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has cautioned security operatives against provoking armed groups in Katsina, warning that fresh attacks could derail a fragile peace deal in Faskari LGA.
The controversial Kaduna-based cleric made the remarks in a Facebook post after residents and local leaders held talks with wanted bandit kingpin Ado Alero and dozens of armed herders.
Gumi claimed “those who don’t want peace” may incite violence by targeting the groups, urging restraint and dialogue instead.
At the meeting, Alero admitted past clashes deepened after one of his men was arrested without explanation, while Fulani herder Kwashé Garwa condemned the “stereotyping” of Fulani as bandits, stressing that criminality exists across all tribes.
Participants expressed hope that the initiative could restore peace in Katsina and beyond, but warned that killings and kidnappings will persist unless justice and fair treatment are guaranteed.
