Tinubu Reportedly Resists Calls to Quit Smoking Despite Health Concerns
President Bola Tinubu has allegedly continued his smoking habit despite repeated interventions from close aides and allies urging him to quit, SaharaReporters has gathered.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that concerns about the President’s health have been raised several times, but Tinubu has shown no sign of giving up the practice.
“Tinubu’s smoking addiction is a real issue. Despite efforts to convince him to stop, he remains unwilling to change,” one source disclosed.
According to insiders, the President’s handlers believe his lifestyle choices raise public interest, especially as a national leader whose wellbeing is tied to the country’s stability.
Since assuming office in May 2023, Tinubu has embarked on nearly 40 international trips—many officially described as diplomatic or working visits. However, some of these journeys, particularly to France and the UK, are widely believed to include medical consultations.
The Presidency has consistently maintained that Tinubu is “fit and capable,” but speculation about his health persists among Nigerians.
In June, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaye, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, confirmed that Tinubu had already undertaken 36 foreign trips spanning Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.
Destinations included France, the UK, the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, China, India, Brazil, and several African nations, fueling further debate about the true purpose behind his extensive travels.
