VIDEO: APC Courting Kwankwaso to Deliver Kano for Tinubu in 2027 – Ally

Yusuf Sharada, an ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, has revealed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is actively trying to woo the former Kano State governor ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Sharada, who also serves as the National Coordinator of Project Save Nigeria, said the APC is seeking Kwankwaso’s support to regain influence in Kano—a state with one of Nigeria’s highest voter turnouts.

“The APC has lost popularity in Kano and is now reaching out to Senator Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya movement,” Sharada stated. “They know his strength and mass followership, particularly in Kano and across the North-West. Politics is about numbers, and they believe he can deliver.”

Sharada also suggested that the recent resignation of Kwankwaso’s longtime political rival, Abdullahi Ganduje, as APC National Chairman, may be part of a larger strategy by the ruling party to lure Kwankwaso into their camp.

“Maybe the APC has perfected their plans. Their anti-people policies have cost them support, so they’re looking to someone who still holds the trust of the masses,” he added.

He emphasized that Kwankwaso’s supporters, the Kwankwasiyya movement, remain fiercely loyal and are waiting for his directive on whom to back in 2027.

“His followers value him more than any political platform. They’re ready to follow his lead, regardless of the party he aligns with,” Sharada said.

Northern Votes Still Key

Since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, the North—especially Kano—has remained a critical region for presidential elections due to its high voter numbers.

In 2023, Kano recorded over 1.7 million votes. Kwankwaso, running on the NNPP ticket, secured 997,279 votes, defeating Tinubu (517,341), Atiku Abubakar (131,716), and Peter Obi (28,513) in the state. Kwankwaso won 38 out of 44 local government areas in Kano, though he ultimately came third nationally with 1,496,687 votes. Tinubu won with 8,794,726 votes, followed by Atiku with 6,984,520 and Obi with 6,101,533.

Currently, NNPP’s Abba Kabir, a close ally of Kwankwaso, serves as Kano State governor, though the APC still controls two of the state's three senatorial districts.
