Police arrest suspected cultist with gun, ammunition in Ogun.

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, Ismail Afolabi, in possession of a locally fabricated double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the arrest was made following credible intelligence.

According to her, the suspect was apprehended by the Special Weapons and Tactics unit during a raid at the Saje area of Car Wash in Abeokuta, where suspected cultists were reportedly holding a secret meeting.

“On June 27, 2025, at about 17:30hrs, the Ogun State Police Command received credible intelligence that members of the Eiye Confraternity were holding a clandestine meeting with suspected criminal intent at the Saje Area of Car Wash, Abeokuta.

“Operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit swiftly mobilised to the scene.

“On arrival, one suspect, Ismail Afolabi, was found in possession of a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition.

“He was apprehended while attempting to flee,” the statement read.

Odutola said preliminary investigations had begun and that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects linked to the meeting.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to eradicating cult-related violence in the state,” Odutola added.
