AAC Blasts Wike-Led FCT Administration for Spending Billions on ICC While Teachers’ Strike Hits 90 Days

The African Action Congress (AAC), FCT Chapter, has condemned the Federal Capital Territory Administration under Minister Nyesom Wike for what it described as reckless spending on luxury projects while neglecting the ongoing strike by primary school teachers, now in its 90th day.

In a statement issued Wednesday, AAC FCT Chairman, Agena Robert Ande, criticized the administration’s failure to honour agreements with the teachers, particularly the proposed ₦70,000 minimum wage and outstanding allowances. He described the prolonged industrial action as “a damning indictment of the administration's indifference to the plight of educators and schoolchildren.”

The party accused the FCT Administration of prioritising “grandiose and wasteful” projects—like the multi-billion-naira renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC)—over essential services such as education.

“This is a betrayal of public trust,” the statement said. “It’s unacceptable that while classrooms remain empty and teachers unpaid, billions are being funneled into projects that benefit only political cronies.”

AAC further demanded immediate action from the FCT Administration to resolve the strike, implement the agreed wage, and address teachers’ demands.

“Anything less is proof of the administration’s disregard for the education sector,” the party warned.

It also urged FCT residents to demand accountability and stand in solidarity with the striking teachers, pledging that AAC will continue to speak out against injustice and government neglect.
