Early Life
George Weah was born on October 1, 1966, in Monrovia, Liberia. He grew up in a poor neighborhood where life was not easy. As a child, he played football barefoot on the streets with friends. Football was his escape from hardship.
Even though his family struggled, young George never gave up on his dream. He believed football could change his life.
Journey into Football
George started playing for small local clubs in Liberia. His talent quickly stood out. A big turning point came when he was discovered by a coach who helped him move to Cameroon and later to Europe.
His first major European club was AS Monaco in France. This was the beginning of something great.
Rise to Global Stardom
At AS Monaco, George Weah showed incredible speed, strength, and skill. He later joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he became one of the best players in Europe.
His biggest moment came when he joined AC Milan in Italy. There, he scored amazing goals and won many trophies.
In 1995, he made history by winning the Ballon d’Or, becoming the first and only African player to ever win it.

Despite his success, George never forgot where he came from. Liberia was going through civil war at the time. He often used his money to support his country and help the national team.
