Identity of 13-Year-Old JSS 2 Boy Allegedly Killed by Operation Udo Ga-Achi Officers Revealed
The identity of the 13-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed by operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi in Onitsha South Local Government Area, Anambra State, has been revealed as Fabian Ugo.
Speaking to Sunday Vanguard, the grieving family expressed their anguish and vowed to seek justice for Fabian. According to the family, the pain of the loss is even deeper because the boy was not involved in any criminal activity but was reportedly killed while relieving himself.
Fabian's uncle, Mr. Nnamdi Ugo—who is the immediate younger brother of the deceased’s father—confirmed the victim’s identity. He said Fabian was a Junior Secondary School 2 student at Comprehensive Secondary School, Igidiagu in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. Fabian had been in Onitsha during the school holidays to take up a vacation job and was scheduled to return to Ebonyi on Sunday, June 15, ahead of school resumption on Monday, June 16, 2025.
“Not only did the operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi shoot him dead, they shamelessly took his ATM card from his pocket when they were forced to retrieve his body from the gutter where he had fallen,” Mr. Ugo alleged. “It was at the Fegge Police Station that the officers were compelled by police authorities to hand over the ATM card to me. I haven’t yet checked the account to confirm if any withdrawals were made.”
He also recounted how Fabian’s siblings were allegedly assaulted by officers at Fegge Police Station when they went to officially report the incident.
Despite the trauma, the family acknowledged the efforts of a female Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from the Onitsha Main Market Police Post. According to Mr. Ugo, the DPO was instrumental in ensuring that the case was not covered up. “She supported us, encouraged us, and even accompanied us to the Fegge Police Station,” he said.
The family continues to demand accountability and justice for Fabian Ugo’s death.
