BORROWED LIFE Episode 4

Aminat (POV)

The first cracks appeared like ice underfoot. Daniel confronted me, his eyes not with anger but confusion and disappointment. Every carefully constructed lie unraveled in his presence. Friends I had counted on disappeared overnight, some because of my deception, others because I had become a stranger even to myself. I felt the walls of my carefully built world collapse, leaving me exposed and trembling. I wanted to cry, to explain, to undo everything, but words fell short. I was left alone, facing the consequences I had so long ignored.

Returning home was worse than I had imagined. Ajegunle felt smaller, more confining than ever. The street noise that once was merely background now screamed judgment. I entered the house hesitantly, half expecting it to welcome me with warmth, but the faces I met were hollow. My siblings looked at me with resentment I could not bear. My mother’s eyes were filled with a silent accusation that pierced deeper than any words. I begged, cried, promised to change, but some damage cannot be undone. The life I had abandoned was not waiting to forgive me.

Sadiya (POV)

I saw her, but she was no longer the daughter I knew. She returned after years of silence, carrying shame and regret in her eyes, but my heart had learned to guard itself. The weight of abandoned dreams, unpaid bills, and the lingering grief for her father were a constant reminder that her actions had consequences. I loved her still, but love had become cautious, measured, tempered by the hard lessons of abandonment.

I wondered if she understood the depth of what she had done. The sacrifices, the sleepless nights, the heartbreak, and the resilience it took to survive in our absence all these were silent truths she had yet to grasp. And I knew, deep down, that unless she truly faced them, nothing would ever restore the bond we once shared.

The tension between us was unspoken yet palpable. Her presence brought both hope and fear, a reminder of what was lost and what might never be regained. I watched her struggle, realizing that the journey she had taken alone was one I could not undo. The stage was set, and the final reckoning was approaching. Our lives, intertwined yet fractured, teetered on the edge of an outcome none of us could yet predict. The tragedy to come was inevitable, a culmination of choices made and truths avoided, waiting silently at the horizon..... continue reading Episode 5
