Relief at Last: Six ECWA Worshippers Freed in Kogi After Weeks in Bandits’ Captivity

Relief swept through Aiyetoro Kiri community in Bunu land, Kogi State, as six remaining ECWA worshippers abducted by terrorists were finally released after weeks of negotiations and ransom payments. The Aiyetoro Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA) confirmed the development on Wednesday, describing it as the end of a painful and traumatic chapter for the victims, their families, and the entire community.

The worshippers, members of First ECWA Aiyetoro Kiri, were kidnapped during a deadly attack on December 14, 2025. Their release marked the final phase of a staggered process that began earlier in January following prolonged talks with the abductors. Earlier batches of victims were freed on January 1, January 12, and January 13, after intense negotiations and heavy financial contributions.

AKBDA revealed that securing the freedom of all abductees demanded enormous resources and unwavering community support. The association thanked God, families, sympathisers, and the media for their roles, while calling on authorities to improve security and prevent future attacks in Aiyetoro Kiri and the wider Bunu land.
