Italian Fashion Icon Valentino Garavani Dies at 93

Italian fashion legend Valentino Garavani has passed away at the age of 93. His foundation confirmed on Monday that the iconic designer died peacefully at his home in Rome, surrounded by family.

Born in 1932 in Voghera, northern Italy, Valentino trained in Paris before founding his fashion house in Rome in 1959. He quickly rose to global fame for his elegant haute couture and his signature scarlet shade, famously known as “Valentino red.”

Alongside his longtime business partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, Valentino built a luxury fashion empire that dressed some of the world’s most influential women. His clientele included Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy, Queen Paola of Belgium, and many others.

Over the decades, his designs became red-carpet classics, worn by stars such as Jane Fonda, Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lopez, and Anne Hathaway. Even in recent years, celebrities like Zendaya, Carey Mulligan, and Gemma Chan continued to showcase his creations, proving the lasting influence of the Valentino brand.
