NEC Approves N100bn to Rehabilitate Police and Security Training Schools Nationwide

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved N100 billion—subject to President Bola Tinubu’s final approval—for the rehabilitation of Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies’ training institutions across the country. The decision was reached during NEC’s 154th virtual meeting after reviewing a report by an ad hoc committee chaired by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, which found many of the facilities in severe disrepair.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who chairs NEC, emphasised that the reforms must lead to measurable, real-world improvements in Nigeria’s security capacity. NEC also approved an additional N2.6 billion for consultancy services tied to the rehabilitation project.

The council further discussed other national matters, including a proposed 5% recruitment quota for persons with disabilities and updates on a fire outbreak at the Abuja timber market. Shettima reiterated that governance must prioritise outcomes over rhetoric to strengthen public trust and national development.
