According to a report by Sahara Reporters on Monday, 30 June 2025, the Oyo State Police Command has arrested suspected armed robbers and recovered dangerous weapons in Ibadan, following a swift operation carried out during an early morning patrol.

According to a police report issued by the Divisional Police Officer of Yemetu Division, CSP Fayiwole Julius Oluwadare, the arrests were made during a patrol led by ASP Atilola Wasiu on June 27, 2025, at about 6:00 a.m. The patrol team observed three men on a motorcycle behaving suspiciously along the Yemetu area.

Upon noticing the officers, the suspects later identified as Hammed Saheed and two others abandoned their motorcycle and fled, leaving behind a black bag. A thorough search of the bag revealed two cut-to-size locally made pistols, two live cartridges, a UTC Knife and several criminal charms believed to be used for protection during illicit operations.

One of the suspects, 32-year-old Ganiu Fadipe, was apprehended after a hot pursuit. During interrogation, Fadipe reportedly provided valuable information that led to the arrest of other members of the gang. The police believe the suspects are linked to a robbery syndicate responsible for several criminal activities in the city.

The command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects still at large and investigations have been intensified to uncover the full extent of the gang’s operations.

CSP Oluwadare commended the vigilance and professionalism of the officers involved, reiterating the command’s commitment to ridding Oyo State of violent criminals. Residents were also urged to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities.
