• President Tinubu declares state of emergency on nigeria’s security training institutions.

President bola tinubu has declared a state of emergency on nigeria’s security training facilities, describing their poor state as a threat to the efficiency of the nation’s internal security agencies.

The announcement covers institutions under the nigeria police force (npf), the nigeria security and civil defence corps (nscdc), and other agencies. the development was confirmed by enugu governor peter mbah, who heads the nec ad-hoc committee on security training reforms.

During an inspection in lagos, mbah said the president’s directive followed his october 23 approval for a total overhaul of police and civil defence training centres. “the president recognized the urgent need to restore pride, professionalism, and confidence among our security personnel,” mbah stated.

He noted that the committee, which has 30 days to submit its report, divided into two teams — one led by nasarawa governor abdullahi sule to inspect institutions in the north, and another led by himself in the south. according to him, consultants are assessing what needs to be rebuilt, re-equipped, and modernized.

Mbah explained that the move would establish an intervention fund for rebuilding and digital transformation, adding that tinubu’s approval of 30,000 new police recruits required proper training infrastructure. “we cannot train a 21st-century force using 20th-century systems,” he said, emphasizing the need for digital skills in ai, robotics, and mechatronics.

He stressed that the initiative was proactive and not in reaction to any external comment. “this directive was issued before recent foreign remarks. the president is simply addressing decades of neglect,” he clarified.

Governor dapo abiodun, former igp alkali usman baba, and aig olatunji disu, who oversees the spu, affirmed that the committee’s findings will guide the next phase of comprehensive reforms across nigeria’s security training institutions.

  • BREAKING: Supreme Court Reserves Judgment on Tinubu’s State of Emergency Declaration in Rivers State

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

A seven-man panel of justices led by Justice Inyang Okoro reached the decision after hearing final arguments from all parties involved. The date for the judgment will be announced later by the apex court.

According to Naija News, the plaintiffs in the case include the Attorneys General of 10 states, while the Federal Government and the National Assembly are the defendants.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Delta State withdrew from the suit — a move that went uncontested by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), counsel for the Federal Government.

Representing the plaintiffs, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) clarified that the suit does not challenge the President’s constitutional power to declare a state of emergency, but rather questions its scope and implications, particularly on the offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor, and the State House of Assembly in Rivers State.

The matter now awaits a final decision from the nation’s highest court.

  • Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses Tinubu of Illegally Shortening Governor Fubara’s Tenure

Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused President Bola Tinubu of unlawfully cutting short Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s four-year term through the state of emergency declared in Rivers State.

In a statement released on Saturday via his 𝕏 account, Okonkwo argued that Fubara’s administration should run until November 29, 2027, instead of the scheduled May 29, 2027, to compensate for the six months lost during the emergency period. He urged the governor to take legal action to reclaim the truncated portion of his tenure.

“Gov Fubara was elected to serve a full four-year term from the date of his swearing-in. The illegal declaration of the state of emergency has reduced his term by six months. Fubara has the right to challenge this in court to recover his full tenure,” Okonkwo stated.

Citing Supreme Court precedent, he emphasized that governors are constitutionally entitled to serve four complete years from their inauguration. According to Okonkwo, ending Fubara’s tenure in May 2027 would deprive Rivers residents of six months of democratic governance.

“The Supreme Court has affirmed that a governor’s tenure runs for four years from the day he is sworn in. If Fubara leaves office on May 29, 2027, he would have served only three years and six months. His tenure should rightfully end on November 29, 2027,” he said.

Okonkwo further warned that holding gubernatorial elections in Rivers State before November 29, 2027, would be unconstitutional, setting a dangerous precedent for the country’s democratic processes.

“Any election conducted before the expiration of his tenure on November 29, 2027, is illegal and unconstitutional. Power to govern Rivers State belongs to its people, not to any president or unelected administrator. Rivers must recover the months lost under Tinubu’s government,” he declared.

  • Kenneth Okonkwo Faults Tinubu Over Rivers Emergency Rule, Says Presidency Exploited LGA Elections

Veteran Nollywood actor and Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has faulted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s handling of the state of emergency in Rivers State, insisting that Tinubu merely exploited the situation to control local government authorities through proxies.

In a statement released on Saturday via his official 𝕏 account, Okonkwo argued that the President’s recent announcement lifting the emergency rule in Rivers was misleading, as the proclamation had already expired automatically after six months, in line with the constitution.

    Citing Section 305(6)(c), Okonkwo stressed:

“A proclamation issued by the President under this section shall cease to have effect after a period of six months has elapsed since it has been in force.”

According to him, Tinubu had the power to revoke the emergency earlier—particularly after former Governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara declared that they had settled their differences—but chose not to. Instead, he claimed, the President allowed the proclamation to linger so his administration could allegedly organize illegal local government elections using sole administrators as proxies.

Okonkwo further dismissed Tinubu’s claim of reinstating Governor Fubara, stating that such powers lie only with the people of Rivers State and their elected representatives, not the presidency.

“You cannot reinstate whom you cannot remove. Only the Rivers people, through their elected representatives and the state judiciary, can remove the Governor and his Deputy—not Tinubu,” he declared.

The actor-politician concluded that Tinubu’s actions were not only unconstitutional but also insulting to the sensibilities of Rivers people, warning that the presidency must respect the boundaries of democratic governance.

  • Kano outperforms Lagos, Oyo, others in 2025 NECO SSCE results.

Kano State has emerged as the best-performing state in the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE Internal) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO).

The state recorded 68,159 candidates (5.02% of the national total) with five credits and above, including Mathematics and English. Lagos followed with 67,007 candidates (4.93%), while Oyo placed third with 48,742.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, through his spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the feat validates his administration’s education reforms.

He noted that education received the highest allocation in the 2024 and 2025 budgets, enabling school rehabilitation, free uniforms and materials, recruitment and training of teachers, and expanded access to learning. He highlighted girl-child education, scholarships, and reducing out-of-school children as key drivers of Kano’s success.

“Our reforms are clearly yielding results, and this outstanding performance proves Kano is on the right path. Education remains our top priority, and we will ensure no child is left behind,” Yusuf said.

Observers say the state’s success has drawn national recognition, with newspapers and the Nigeria Union of Teachers naming Yusuf “Education Governor of the Year.” They described the performance as proof of sustained investment in human capital.

Yusuf had declared a state of emergency in education in 2024 and allocated 31% of the 2025 budget to the sector as part of a recovery plan.

Meanwhile, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, announcing the results in Minna, said 818,492 of 1,358,339 candidates (60.26%) scored five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, while 1,144,496 (84.26%) obtained five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.

  • Peter Obi Criticizes Rivers State Emergency Rule as a “Misstep”

Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has slammed the recent state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it a constitutional misstep that should never have occurred.

Speaking on Thursday via his 𝕏 account, Obi described the emergency rule as a disruption to the democratic process in the state, praising Rivers residents for enduring six months of political provocation.

His comments followed President Bola Tinubu’s announcement on Wednesday lifting the emergency rule and reinstating Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

    Obi wrote:

“The misstep that should not have happened.
The restoration of democracy in Rivers State after six months of needless disruption remains a sour side of our democracy today.
It was a constitutional breach that will hurt our democracy for a long time.
I just hope that some lessons were learned by all the gladiators in the Rivers State impasse. Great minds remind us that ‘The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.’
A true leader is the one who admits mistakes, learns from them, and is strong enough to correct them.
I would like to congratulate the good people of Rivers State for their endurance in the face of provocations.
And I appeal to Governor Fubara, the members of the state House of Assembly, and all political leaders in the state to embrace peace and forge ahead.
The real mistake is the one where we learn nothing. Be assured that a new Nigeria is possible and inevitable.”

Obi’s statement highlights concerns over constitutional overreach and emphasizes the importance of democracy, accountability, and lessons learned from political missteps.

  • Akwa Ibom Govt reveals how a mother and her newborn died after Trained Consultants Abandoned their Duties Despite State Sponsorship.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has accused two medical consultants of abandoning their duty posts despite enjoying full sponsorship for training and other incentives provided by the state.

Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ekem Emmanuel John, made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the reforms in the health sector following the state of emergency declared by Governor Umo Eno.

According to him, the consultants—a radiologist and a haematologist—failed to resume duty after completing their government-funded residency training. One of them, he alleged, had relocated to Lagos while still drawing salaries from the state and holding another full-time job, which he described as a criminal offence.

Prof. Ekem said the governor had already approved the recruitment of 2,000 health workers, the largest in the state’s history, to address manpower gaps. He linked the recent death of a mother and her newborn at Ikot Ekpene General Hospital to the absence of the assigned consultant, stressing that the facility was adequately staffed with doctors except for radiology.

He further explained that under civil service rules, doctors on study leave without pay are entitled to resume their positions on completion, while those sponsored on paid study leave must serve the state for the equivalent number of years they trained. Failure to do so requires refunding all salaries earned during the training period.

“The government invests heavily to train doctors, and it is dishonest for them to abandon their duty after receiving such support. Anybody who wants to ‘japa’ is free to do so, but not with state resources,” he stated.

Prof. Ekem urged the public not to blame the government for such lapses but to hold defaulting professionals accountable, adding that the administration remains committed to repositioning the health sector and ensuring residents have access to reliable and quality care.

  • Nigeria in Crisis: “Over 70% of the Country Is Burning, Yet No State of Emergency” — Gen. Nanjuma

Nigeria’s worsening security challenges have once again come under scrutiny, with retired Major General Nanjuma Ali Kevy, former General Officer Commanding Division One of the Nigerian Army, warning that the nation is at breaking point.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on September 11, 2025, Kevy lamented that despite reports showing over 70% of the country engulfed in crisis—ranging from insurgency in the North to farmer-herder clashes, kidnappings, and organized crime—the federal government has yet to declare a state of emergency.

“With over 70% of the country engulfed in crisis, we are still waiting to declare a state of emergency. Come on, guys,” he said bluntly.

Kevy argued that Nigeria’s situation requires immediate and decisive intervention. Drawing comparisons with Sri Lanka, he noted how the smaller nation had to create new military divisions to quell insurgency, stressing that Nigeria’s larger population and landmass demand a far greater military effort.

Security experts back his call, pointing out that stronger military presence, better training, and improved logistics are critical to confronting terrorists, bandits, and criminal networks. Kevy emphasized that cutting off logistics and financial sponsors is key, warning that merely arresting small suppliers is “a drop in the ocean.”

On the issue of dialogue with bandits, Kevy dismissed the idea, arguing it projects weakness. Instead, he insisted that the security forces must lead with strength, not negotiations.

As hundreds of lives continue to be lost and communities destroyed, pressure is mounting on the federal government to act swiftly. Without urgent measures—such as declaring a state of emergency, boosting troop deployment, and adopting a coordinated strategy—Nigeria risks sliding deeper into chaos.
Nigeria in Crisis: “Over 70% of the Country Is Burning, Yet No State of Emergency” — Gen. Nanjuma Nigeria’s worsening security challenges have once again come under scrutiny, with retired Major General Nanjuma Ali Kevy, former General Officer Commanding Division One of the Nigerian Army, warning that the nation is at breaking point. • Coalition Gives Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal 7 Days to Expose Bandit Hideouts or Face Mass Protests

The Coalition of Citizens Against Banditry and Insecurity in Nigeria (CABIN) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, demanding that he reveal the exact locations of bandits and criminal gangs operating in the state.

The group warned that if the governor fails to act within the stipulated time, it would mobilize nationwide protests and call on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara.

In a statement signed by its president, Comrade Solomon Charles Abutu, CABIN accused the governor of admitting—through recent public comments—that he knows where the bandits reside but has failed to hand them over to security agencies.

“Governor Dauda Lawal has confirmed in his own words that he knows where the killers, kidnappers, and bloodthirsty bandits reside. By that singular admission, he owes Nigerians a moral and constitutional duty to immediately hand them over. Anything short of this within seven days will amount to complicity,” the coalition declared.

The group condemned what it described as the governor’s “weaponisation of lamentation”, stressing that despite receiving billions of naira in monthly security votes, insecurity in Zamfara has only worsened.

CABIN also alleged that bandits have infiltrated political circles in the state, claiming some operate within Government House Gusau under the protection of compromised officials.

“Zamfara has become the epicentre of Nigeria’s banditry crisis. Governance is not about saying ‘I cannot do it.’ Leadership requires courage and political will. If Governor Lawal has run out of ideas, let him resign instead of normalising excuses,” the statement added.

The coalition vowed to mobilize residents, civil society organisations, and student unions for mass demonstrations in Gusau, Abuja, and other cities if the ultimatum lapses without action.

CABIN also called on President Bola Tinubu to personally monitor the situation and hold Governor Lawal accountable, warning that failure to act decisively would embolden criminal networks nationwide.

“Governor Lawal has seven days to prove his loyalty to the Nigerian people—or face the full weight of civic resistance,” the group declared.

  • Resident Doctors in FCT Begin Seven-Day Warning Strike

The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory (ARD-FCT), has embarked on a seven-day warning strike to protest unresolved issues in the health sector.

Announcing the action in Abuja, ARD-FCT President, Dr. George Ebong, said the decision followed resolutions at an emergency meeting on Friday, September 5. He explained that despite several rounds of dialogue, the FCT Administration had failed to address long-standing concerns.

Issues raised include lack of manpower, poor welfare, unpaid salaries, unexplained deductions, and the psychological toll of long working hours. Ebong noted that no new employment has taken place since 2011, leaving doctors to cover multiple departments. He recalled that the pressure of excessive workload recently led to the death of a doctor in Port Harcourt.

The association also cited unsafe conditions, pointing to a nurse who died from a snake bite in Abaji General Hospital. “The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been notified severally of the issues affecting doctors but has allegedly turned a blind eye,” Ebong said. He urged the administration to declare a state of emergency across the 14 district and general hospitals in the FCT.

The strike, he stressed, will be uninterrupted. “If after seven days the issues raised are not resolved, the doctors will embark on an indefinite strike,” he warned, adding that decision-making must include frontline health professionals.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Isaq Salako, expressed optimism that ongoing talks with the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) could avert a nationwide strike. “The National Association of Resident Doctors has issued an ultimatum, but I believe with the level of conversation ongoing, we had a meeting on Monday; we are making progress,” he said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

He explained that the main issue remains the residency training allowance, about 40 percent of which for 2025 is yet to be paid. “That is my hope, and that is what we are working on,” he said.

  • Northern leaders demand sack of security chiefs, cabinet overhaul.

Abuja — The Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum (NENF), a coalition of socio-cultural and political leaders from the 19 northern states, has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately reshuffle his cabinet and overhaul the nation’s security architecture in response to Nigeria’s worsening crises.

In a strongly worded statement issued Sunday in Abuja and signed by its Convener, Dominic Alancha, the Forum said it had “deeply examined the painful conditions of the people of Northern Nigeria and the nation at large” and, after wide consultations, resolved to demand urgent and transformative action.

The group expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as the “glaring underperformance” of several ministers, warning that the current cabinet lacks both competence and political capital to effectively drive the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“A ministerial appointment is not merely a reward for loyalty; it is a critical assignment. We therefore call on President Tinubu to immediately dissolve and reshuffle the Federal Executive Council (FEC), replacing underperforming ministers with individuals of proven integrity, exceptional capability and significant political influence,” the statement read.

According to the Forum, a stronger cabinet is essential not only for national development but also for the President’s political survival ahead of the 2027 elections.

On insecurity, NENF lamented that banditry, terrorism and kidnapping had crippled farming, commerce, and transportation across many states, describing the situation as a “full-blown catastrophe.”

It declared that the current Service Chiefs had failed despite enormous resources at their disposal, and therefore demanded their immediate dismissal. The Forum also called for the appointment of new military leaders with a clear, results-driven mandate and urged the declaration of a state of emergency on security in Northern Nigeria.

“This is not a call for militarization but for a targeted, multi-agency emergency operation to flush out terrorists, dismantle their networks, and restore order,” it stressed.

  • Rufai Oseni challenges Supreme Court over Rivers crisis.

Arise anchor, Mr Rufai Oseni, has challenged the Supreme Court to hear the case filed against the state of emergency rule and the sole administrator in Rivers State.

Oseni, who spoke on the Morning Show, argued that the deliberate decision to delay hearing the case was not the appropriate way to run a democracy.

'Teacher pushed me, raised my skirt'; NYSC member fights for 13 victims of sexual abuse in Lagos...

According to him, the forthcoming local government election in Rivers is tied to the Supreme Court’s verdict and the future of Rivers.

His words: “When the story of democracy is written in this country many years from now, we will ask questions about what the court did. Today, my challenge is to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Many PDP governors filed a case against the state of emergency and the sole administrator.

“Why has the Supreme Court not heard that case, or do they want to delay it until the expiration of the six months’ state of emergency? It looks like that. Since the case was filed, the Supreme Court has not sat on it. If the Supreme Court does not hear a case like this, we will not be able to determine whether the aberration of the state of emergency was right. Do you know what it will breed? Other presidents will use that state of emergency clause to settle political scores, and that is how Nigeria begins to disintegrate morally. I might be wrong, but here is my challenge: I do not think the Supreme Court will hear that case, it can prove me wrong. If it hears that case, it will be a miracle. I will come on air and celebrate the Supreme Court. But my gut instincts tell me otherwise, because that is the bane of development in Rivers. The fact that the court has not determined the illegality of that aberration makes everyone hide under it. And this is not the first time.

“The last time a President declared a state of emergency and the case was taken to court, the court also delayed until it was overtaken by events. When we eventually write about democracy, the role played by the courts will matter. I want to challenge the Supreme Court to save democracy and hear this case.

“Going back to the ongoing aberration, the Rivers State electoral laws are clear: you must give a 90-day threshold. As we speak, no such threshold was given. They have simply gone ahead to determine the date of an election under a sole administrator. In fact, I will read some of the demands put forward by elders in Rivers State. They said there is no legally constituted Rivers State Independence Electoral Commission, RSIEC, as mandated by Section 235 and Section 12 of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Law.

  • Tragedy in Education: Kogi Students Forced to Learn Under Trees as School Lies in Ruins for Over a Decade

In a heartbreaking revelation, students of Government Science Secondary School, Oguma, in Bassa LGA, Kogi State, have been learning under mango trees for over 10 years due to the total collapse of school infrastructure.

Classrooms have no roofs, no walls, no windows—just crumbling blocks and shattered dreams. With no shelter, students are exposed to scorching heat, rain, and insecurity, forcing many parents to withdraw their children in search of private education they can barely afford.

The situation was brought to light by civic platform Monitng, which condemned the silence and inaction of both past and present administrations, despite alleged allocations of billions of naira to education under former Governor Yahaya Bello and the current government led by Governor Usman Ododo.

"This is not education—it’s abandonment," Monitng said, urging Governor Ododo to declare a state of emergency in the education sector and take immediate action to renovate the school and restore dignity to public education.

According to UBEC, ₦250 billion was disbursed for basic school upgrades across the country, yet Oguma remains a symbol of neglect and misappropriation.

As teachers lose morale and communities fall into despair, one truth remains clear: Nigeria’s children deserve better than classrooms under mango trees.
