  • Military authorities have arrested and detained a serving Brigadier General over his alleged association with retired Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi. The detention is believed to be connected to Ali-Keffi’s legal and public dispute with former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd).

Ali-Keffi, appointed in October 2020 by former President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the covert Presidential Task Force, Operation Service Wide, has repeatedly accused officials of releasing terrorism-financing suspects while they were in military custody. The task force was responsible for arresting, investigating, and prosecuting financiers and collaborators of terrorist groups and targeting their leaders.

According to military sources, Brigadier General Gabriel E. Archibong was arrested more than 10 days ago and is currently being held at the Army’s Special Investigation Bureau. His arrest was reportedly linked to frequent communication with Ali-Keffi and claims that he was not cooperating with authorities.

After his arrest, soldiers searched his Lugbe residence for several hours. Nothing incriminating was found, but his phones and laptop were seized. Archibong, an officer serving at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Minna, Niger State, is feared to face serious career and personal consequences from the detention, despite sources insisting he has done nothing wrong.

  • Is Nigeria’s Army Under Digital Attack? Nigerian Army Hunts Operators of Fake Social Media Accounts Impersonating the Chief of Army Staff

The Nigerian Army has sounded the alarm over what it describes as a growing digital threat: the proliferation of fake social media accounts falsely claiming to be operated by or affiliated with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu. The development has raised concerns about online fraud, misinformation, and the misuse of military authority in cyberspace.

In a press statement issued on January 9, 2026, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, described the trend as “disturbing,” warning that unscrupulous individuals are creating and running these accounts to mislead the public. According to the Army, the impostor profiles are being used to solicit funds, defraud unsuspecting citizens, and circulate false information in the name of the COAS and the Nigerian Army.

The Army categorically clarified that Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu does not operate or maintain any official social media account on any platform. This statement directly contradicts the claims made by the fake profiles, which present themselves as authoritative voices of the Army’s top leadership.

Colonel Anele urged Nigerians to exercise extreme caution online and avoid engaging with, responding to, or sharing content from any account claiming to represent the Chief of Army Staff. The public was advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious pages, as interaction with such accounts could expose users to financial scams, identity theft, or the spread of dangerous misinformation.

Beyond public awareness, the Army confirmed that it is actively pursuing the operators behind these accounts. It stated that necessary steps are being taken to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible in accordance with existing laws. The move underscores a broader effort by the military to combat cyber-enabled crimes that exploit public trust in state institutions.

The development highlights growing concerns about digital impersonation and information warfare in Nigeria, particularly as social media becomes an increasingly powerful tool for influence, deception, and criminal activity. By issuing a formal warning and launching a manhunt for the perpetrators, the Nigerian Army is signaling its determination to protect both its institutional credibility and the public from online exploitation.

As authorities intensify their investigation, Nigerians are being reminded that not every account bearing official names or military symbols is legitimate. The episode serves as a stark reminder of how easily digital platforms can be weaponised—and why vigilance, verification, and accountability are more critical than ever in the age of social media.

  • COAS charges troops to flush bandits from forested areas as he vows “No safe haven for terrorists in Nigeria”

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has declared that bandits and other criminal elements would no longer find refuge in Nigeria’s forests, deserts or national parks, as he charged troops to intensify operations and flush them out of all hideouts.

Shaibu gave the charge on Monday while addressing soldiers and officers of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, in Ibadan during an operation visit.

The COAS commended the officers and soldiers for the successes recorded within their area of responsibility, while urging them to sustain the momentum.

“We must let them know that there is no safe haven anywhere. Come rain, come sun, forested areas, desert areas or mountainous areas, we are going after them,” the Army Chief said.

According to him, criminal groups had continued to exploit difficult and forested terrains to launch attacks on innocent citizens, stressing that such advantages would no longer be tolerated.

The COAS directed troops to intensify night operations, noting that dominance of the terrain especially forested zones was critical to denying bandits freedom of movement and operational space.

Shaibu specifically pointed to security challenges around the Kwara general area, Kainji Lake National Park and the Old Oyo National Park, saying firm directives were being issued to ensure that all criminal elements were flushed out of the areas.

“Directives are coming up so that you go and clear everything in that place. We are moving with ruthless determination to eliminate all those disturbing that terrain,” he said.

He praised the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and other senior officers for their leadership, saying the operational briefing he received reflected determination and clear focus.

The Army Chief urged officers to continue to lead from the front, describing leadership as a decisive factor in sustaining operational superiority and achieving victory over adversaries.

Shaibu also expressed satisfaction with the morale and responsiveness of the troops, adding that he expected more tangible results from the 2 Division area of responsibility in the coming days.

On welfare, the COAS assured officers and soldiers that their well-being remained a top priority for Army Headquarters, pledging that entitlements would be paid promptly and logistical needs addressed.

He disclosed that approval had been granted for additional renovation and construction of accommodation within barracks under the division to ease existing accommodation pressure.

“You will be given all you require, and all your entitlements will be paid as and when due,” Shaibu assured the troops.

He added that sustained discipline, motivation and improved welfare were indispensable to maintaining operational superiority against bandits and other criminal elements threatening communities across the region.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Retired General Ali-Keffi Alleges Malami, Ex-Army Chiefs Colluded To Free 48 Terrorism Financing Suspects, Links Top Officials To Money Laundering

Retired Nigerian Army Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi has alleged that former Attorney General Abubakar Malami (SAN) and ex-Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, colluded with other senior military and government officials to illegally release 48 terrorism financing suspects from Army custody. Ali-Keffi, who headed the covert Presidential Task Force Operation Service Wide (OSW), said the releases occurred under suspicious circumstances despite overwhelming evidence gathered with support from the UAE and Western intelligence agencies.

In an exclusive interview with SaharaReporters, the retired general claimed his removal from the Army was orchestrated to pave the way for freeing the suspects, whom he alleged were linked to money laundering and terror financing networks involving powerful figures. He further accused top officials of diverting billions of dollars meant for Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts, warning that misappropriation of security funds is as dangerous as directly financing terrorism. Ali-Keffi called for a thorough investigation into OSW operations to uncover the truth behind the suspects’ release.

  • Retired General Claims COAS Attahiru Was Assassinated in 2021 Kaduna Plane Explosion, Not Accident

Retired Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi has alleged that the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru, was deliberately assassinated in the 2021 aircraft explosion that killed him and 10 others near Kaduna Airport. Speaking publicly, Ali-Keffi claimed the aircraft did not crash but exploded mid-air and that injuries on the victims suggested an internal blast. He linked the incident to internal military hostility, corruption, sabotage, leaked intelligence, and Attahiru’s ongoing forensic audit of Army funds. The retired general also alleged operational compromises, terror-financing within the military, and unresolved irregularities around the still-unreleased accident investigation report. He insists Attahiru was targeted due to his anti-corruption stance and conflicts with powerful figures.

  • Army denies alleged plan to force youths into the military service.

The Nigerian Army has rejected claims that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, is planning to forcibly recruit Nigerian youths aged 18 and above into military service.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the Acting Director of Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, called the viral report a “malicious fabrication” designed to mislead people and sow fear.

She stressed that at no point did the COAS threaten mandatory enlistment for youths who don’t volunteer.

She clarified that the COAS has never made any such statements in any official forum or public engagement.

The viral post also alleged that 10,000 soldiers recruited last year have gone missing, a claim the Army spokesperson dismissed as entirely unfounded.

Lt-Col. Anele emphasized that spreading false information of this nature is a criminal offense, and anyone involved could be tracked, apprehended, and prosecuted under the law.

The Nigerian Army further urged the public to rely solely on verified communication channels and official social media accounts for credible information.

Anele stressed that the Army remains committed to transparent recruitment processes and maintaining public trust.

However, the Nigeria Army recently announced plans to recruit a new batch of soldiers to strengthen national security.

  • Wike Rebukes Buratai for Comment on Clash With Naval Officer.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday criticised former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), accusing him of misinterpreting the altercation he had last Tuesday with naval officers led by Lt. A.M. Yerima.

Wike questioned Buratai’s claim that his conduct amounted to a national security threat and a slight on President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing reporters at his Life Camp residence, he faulted the former Army chief for asking him to apologise to Lt. Yerima, insisting Buratai had no authority to lecture him on proper behaviour.

He also blamed Yerima for escalating the confrontation over a disputed plot in the Gaduwa District, which the FCT Administration says was illegally acquired by former Naval Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo. Wike accused the officer of obeying an unlawful directive.

Wike said: “I read what one former Chief of Army Staff wrote. He cannot tell me of decency and he can’t teach me. This was the same man who (allegedly) directed his GOC to rig election, my election in 2019. He couldn’t rig me. He lost.

He told his GOC to kill me and I could not be killed. He became an agent in APC primaries to one of APC’s presidential aspirants. Look at the rank of a polling agent. He is the one commenting that the minister did this and that. I have never seen people like this.

I have no regrets for my political opponents. I will continue to make them have sleepless nights. Whether you are in PDP, whether you are in APC, whether you are in ADC, it is not my business.

I have no regrets supporting President Tinubu and I have never hidden my intention and I will continue to do what is right. So, if you like to write anything you want to write, as far as I know, I am standing by the side of the law. If you like, bring every ethnicity coloration, it is your business”.

He urged all officials, regardless of status, to respect the rule of law at all times.

  • President Tinubu Reappoints Buba Marwa as NDLEA Chairman.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for another five-year term.

The announcement was made on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Marwa, first appointed by the late President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021, previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse between 2018 and 2020. His renewed tenure means he will lead the NDLEA until 2031.

An Adamawa-born retired military officer, Marwa is a former military governor of Lagos and Borno States and an alumnus of both the Nigerian Military School and the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1973, he held several key roles, including brigade major of the 23 Armoured Brigade, Aide-de-Camp to then Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Theophilus Danjuma, and academic registrar of the NDA. He also served as Deputy Defence Adviser at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC, and later as Defence Adviser to Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Marwa holds two postgraduate degrees: a Master of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.

His time at the NDLEA has been marked by major successes, including the arrest of more than 73,000 drug traffickers and the seizure of over 15 million kilogrammes of illicit substances.

The agency has also intensified nationwide campaigns against drug abuse under his leadership.

President Tinubu praised Marwa’s achievements, describing his reappointment as a vote of confidence and urging him to continue pursuing drug cartels and traffickers seeking to endanger Nigerians, especially the youth.
