The suspects—described by police as members of a violent criminal syndicate—were picked up in Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities in Kubwa, Abuja, following an intensive manhunt ordered by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye.

According to a statement released on Sunday, January 11, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests were carried out as part of a renewed crackdown on “one-chance” operations that have returned to terrorise residents of the nation’s capital.

Who Are The Suspects?

Police identified the suspects as:

Saifullahi Yusuf (22) – from Kaduna State

Ishau Yusuf (24) – also from Kaduna State and biological brother to Saifullahi

Minka’ilu Jibril (a.k.a Dan-Hajia) – also from Kaduna State


Investigations revealed that the trio are members of a well-known “one-chance” robbery network that has reportedly operated in the FCT for years, especially during festive periods when unsuspecting commuters are most vulnerable.

How The Lawyer Was Killed

SP Adeh explained that the tragic incident occurred on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., when Barrister Chigbo boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway, believing it to be a normal commercial vehicle.

“Upon entry into the vehicle, the suspects wound up the tinted windows and threatened the victim with weapons in an attempt to force her to pay ransom for her own release,” the police said.

When the lawyer allegedly resisted, she was physically assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, leading to her death.

The suspects also reportedly stole her Android phone and later sold it in Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. According to police:

Minka’ilu Jibril received ₦30,000,

Saifullahi Yusuf got ₦15,000,

While Ishau Yusuf shared the balance with another accomplice who is still on the run.


Dangerous Weapons Recovered

During the arrests, police recovered several weapons allegedly used by the gang, including:

Five pairs of scissors

Two sharp dagger knives

Two other knives

A long chain used to restrain victims

A plier


Police said investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to arrest the remaining suspect and dismantle other criminal networks linked to the syndicate.

NBA Reacts: “Abuja Is No Longer Safe”

The killing of Princess Chigbo sparked outrage across the country, with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) raising alarm over what it described as the dangerous return of “one-chance” crimes in Abuja.

In a statement signed by its President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, the NBA lamented that the capital city had once again been plunged into fear and mourning.

According to the association, Princess Chigbo was not the only victim. Another professional, Ms. Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, a nurse, was also killed in a similar “one-chance” attack.

“What appears to be the disturbing return of ‘one-chance’ criminal operations in the Federal Capital Territory has once again plunged Abuja into grief,” the NBA said.

Family’s Painful Account

The late lawyer’s family revealed heartbreaking details of her final moments. Before her abduction, Princess Chigbo was reportedly on a phone call with her sister, Anthonia, when she suddenly cried out in distress and the call cut off.

The family later received a ransom demand of ₦3 million, but before any arrangement could be concluded, subsequent calls captured her screaming in pain.

On January 6, the family was informed that a badly injured woman had been taken to a specialist hospital. When her sister arrived, she found Princess Chigbo’s lifeless body in the mortuary, bearing signs of severe torture, including swollen eyes, bruises, and a cracked skull.

Commending his officers, CP Miller Dantawaye reassured residents that the FCT Police Command remains committed to flushing out criminal elements from Abuja.

Wahala don sup for Delta State as a 26-year-old woman, Favour Kalamatoro, has come out with a heartbreaking story of alleged domestic abuse, assault and child neglect by her children’s father and his family.

Favour, an Urhobo indigene from Obiayagha in Ughelli South, told SaharaReporters that her nightmare began after she went to her children’s father’s house in Udu Local Government Area to check on her two kids. Instead of peace, she said she was attacked by the man, Ikovie Odephiare, his mother, Mrs Ikovie Ekaete, his elder brother, Ikovie Etabunor, and other relatives.

According to her, she has two children with the man—a four-year-old boy and a seven-month-old baby girl—and has endured years of abuse, abandonment and suffering that pushed her into street begging and menial jobs just to survive.

Favour revealed that the violence started while she was pregnant with her second child.
“I was physically assaulted by my children’s father, his mother and his elder brother, all because I went to visit my kids,” she said.

She alleged that during her pregnancy, she was constantly insulted, starved and beaten.
“The abuse started when I was seven months pregnant and living in his house. He would insult me, beat me and even starve me, forcing me to go outside and beg for food while I was pregnant,” she narrated.

Things reportedly got worse when she was eight months pregnant.
“He beat me until I fainted, threw me out of the house and locked the door. Neighbours rushed me to a clinic, and I almost lost my baby. I survived, but the next day, the beatings continued.”

Unable to cope anymore, Favour said she left the house with her first child and began hawking sachet water just to feed herself and the boy.
“I packed my things and left with my four-year-old son. I started selling ‘pure water’ just to survive,” she said.

She further alleged that after she delivered her second child, the man and his family abandoned her completely.
“When I gave birth, none of them came to see me. My father and siblings paid all the hospital bills and took care of me and my two children.”

Although the children’s father later promised her family that he would take responsibility, she said he never fulfilled it.
“Six months later, he came and told my father he would take care of the children and pay the hospital bills, but he never did.”

According to Favour, whenever she asked for money to buy baby food or diapers, she was insulted and threatened.
“He told me not to ask him for anything again and said if I was tired, I should bring the children to him. Later, he told me never to contact him again because he wanted to start a new life and family, while we had nothing to eat.”

She said she once involved the police in Warri so he could formally agree to support the first child, but after sending ₦15,000 once, he allegedly stopped.
“He told me I could do my worst, that he was not afraid of the police or anybody.”

Favour also explained that years of dependence left her without any skills or stable source of income.
“He left me handicapped. I had no handwork, no business to fall back on. The small business I tried to run was ruined because he kept borrowing money from me.”

Out of desperation, she said she eventually took the children to their grandmother’s house for care, begging her to feed them. According to her, the woman initially agreed.

But wahala really burst when she went back to visit her children on Monday, January 10, 2026.
“When I went to see my children, their father, his mother and elder brother gathered and beat me. They punched me, flogged me with a cane and even a shovel, damaged my phone, and I sustained bruises on my mouth and all over my body,” she alleged.

Favour said she reported the matter to the police, but before officers could make an arrest, the children’s grandmother reportedly fled with the kids. She added that when police contacted the children’s father, he claimed he was out of town. Officers later discovered that the mother’s shop had been abandoned, allegedly on his instruction.

As of the time of filing this report, SaharaReporters said attempts to reach Ikovie Odephiare were unsuccessful, with his phone lines reportedly switched off.

“This is my story,” Favour said. “I am seeking urgent help to protect myself and my children.”

A two-storey building has collapsed at 4, Modupeola street, Mangoro bus stop, Alimosho, Lagos State.

The cause of the incident, which occurred around 6pm, was not immediately known. Government officials have launched a probe into the incident.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) and other first responders got to the scene in good time and rescued a trapped victim and five others from the rubble.

The five who were rescued were taken to a private hospital in the neighbourhood. The trapped victim, who had a fracture and bruises, was taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Surgical Emergency by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS). He arrived the hospital in a stable condition and was immediately admitted for further treatment.

The 44-year-old patient lives at 10,Olabode street, Alimosho.

According to the PPRO, the victim had on August 29, 2025, complained of pains in her private part to her eldest sister.

He explained that the victim later told her mother that her school gatekeeper had unlawfully r3ped her while she was at school.

Osifeso added that the suspect confessed to the crime after his arrest.

“The victim was taken to Police Medical Clinic Eleyele, Ibadan, for medical examination and treatment, and the medical report revealed that the hymen was not intact, with tenderness around the vulva and vagina, accompanied by bruises," he stated.

“The suspect would be prosecuted upon completion of investigation."
