Amid worsening insecurity in Benue State, a former Senate President, David Mark, has raised the alarm over the continuous killings in the state, warning that residents may be left with no option but to defend themselves if the government fails in its constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has spoken out after reports that no fewer than 200 people were killed in Benue State over the past two days.

Fani-Kayode, in a tweet on Monday, described the attackers as “evil barbarians, bloodthirsty aliens & blood-lusting terrorists” and said what happened was unacceptable.

He said the killings of innocent civilians must stop, and those responsible must be found and dealt with.

The Ex-Anambra State Governor said, “My heart is heavy as I learn of yet another horrific series of killings in Benue of women, children, soldiers, and displaced persons, all senselessly slain. This tragedy has become too common in our national life, and the Benue situation now calls for a national emergency.

“Over 200 lives have reportedly been extinguished in a single onslaught, homes burnt, families shattered, and communities left in ruin.
