FRSC Corps Marshal Orders Construction Firms to Install Proper Road Signs at All Sites Nationwide

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (#FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has directed all construction companies operating on Nigerian roads to immediately ensure adequate placement, maintenance, and continuous updating of road signs at every active or inactive construction site without exception.

Speaking on the directive, the Corps Marshal emphasised that the measure is aimed at protecting the lives of motorists and other road users around construction zones.

He strongly condemned the persistent failure by some construction firms to provide sufficient warning, information, and diversion signs in project areas, describing the practice as unacceptable and dangerous.

In a petition addressed to the US President, the group described the killings and mass displacement in Zamfara as “a humanitarian tragedy that demands urgent global response”.

According to the coalition, thousands of Nigerians, including men, women, and children, have been killed, abducted, or forced to flee their homes as a result of ongoing attacks by armed groups.

“We write not just as citizens mourning the thousands whose lives have been brutally cut short across parts of northern Nigeria, but as people who recognize your important role as a global leader always ready to confront moral wrongs,” the letter read in part.

The group alleged that while billions of naira are allocated for security across states, the crisis in Zamfara continues to worsen, leading to the deaths of innocent citizens and the destruction of entire communities.

It claimed that the situation reflects what it called “a total breakdown of leadership and accountability in the management of security resources”.

The coalition urged President Trump and the US government to impose visa restrictions on certain political figures, including Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, to “apply international accountability pressure on political actors who trade human lives for political and financial gain”.

“Leadership is a moral duty, not a personal luxury,” the group said, adding that sanctions would “disrupt the comfort derived from foreign refuge and compel responsibility at home”.

The legislation, introduced on Tuesday by House Representative Smith Christopher, recommends visa restrictions and asset freezes for members of the listed groups. Christopher also praised President Donald Trump for re-designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under US law.

In the bill, “Fulani-Ethnic Militias” operating in Benue and Plateau states were also placed on the Entities of Particular Concern (EPC) list reserved for non-state actors implicated in serious religious freedom abuses. Previously designated EPCs include Boko Haram, ISIS-West Africa, ISIS-Sahel, the Taliban, and the Houthis.

The development came the same day US Senator Ted Cruz renewed pressure on Abuja, vowing to hold Nigerian officials accountable over what he described as evidence of a Christian gen+cide. Cruz, who in October proposed the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025, said he would soon name officials he believes enabled religious persecution.

EFCC begins investigation on Oladip’s extortion allegation against operatives.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it has begun investigation into the N10m extortion allegation against some of its operatives by a Nigerian rapper, Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

It added that the accused officers have been suspended of their operational duties pending the conclusion of investigation.

EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday said the commission was alarmed by such allegation and would ensure that truth was unravelled.

Recall that Oladips had accused some operatives of the Commission of extorting the sum of Ten Million Naira from him before securing his release when he was arrested alongside other suspected internet fraudsters.

Reacting, the EFCC Spokesperson insisted that the picture painted by Oladips was not a true reflection of the anti-graft agency.

“We have seen his claims and have commenced investigations on them accordingly. It is also needful to state that if the allegation is found to be false and raised to malign the Commission or tarnish its image, appropriate sanctions will also be imposed.” He added.

He, therefore, urged the public to await the outcome of the investigations and continue to keep faith with the commission.

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a police officer captured in a viral video shooting at a civilian vehicle in Asaba, the state capital.

He noted that while preliminary information indicated the officer was reacting to a hit-and-run incident, such an act still did not justify the use of firearms under the law.

According to Bright, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered a thorough investigation and immediate disciplinary action, assuring that appropriate sanctions will be taken in accordance with the Police Act and internal regulations.
