LIRS Seals Shoprite Lekki Over Alleged Tax Default.

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has sealed the Shoprite outlet at The Palms Shopping Mall, Lekki, over alleged failure to meet tax obligations.

According to a report by Nairametrics, a closure notice placed at the entrance stated that the outlet had “failed to comply with its tax obligations under the relevant tax laws,” describing the act as a violation punishable under Section 94 of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 (as amended).

According to the LIRS notice, the offence attracts both monetary penalties & possible imprisonment. 

It also warned that removing the notice without prior authorization from the agency constitutes a further offence p¥nishable by imprisonment.

As of the time of this report, the LIRS has not issued an official statement clarifying whether the enforcement action was directed specifically at Shoprite, the mall’s management, or individual tenants within the complex.
