Dele Farotimi Prays for Mercy as Lawyer, Sister Abducted After Call to Bar; ₦20m Ransom Placed.

Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of insecurity in the country following the reported abduction of a female lawyer and her sister.

In a post shared on his official X account on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Farotimi wrote: “May Nigeria not happen to me and you. Amen. I don’t know what to do except to pray that God’s mercy will preserve the captives.”

His remarks came in response to news that the lawyer, identified as a newly called barrister, and her sister had been kidnapped shortly after attending the Call to Bar ceremony.

Reports said the victims were abducted on their way home, and their captors have since demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for their release.

A friend of the victim also raised alarm on social media, posting: “My friend and colleague has been kidnapped on her way home from the Call To Bar ceremony. Please we need help. There’s a 20 million naira ransom on her and her sister.”

Farotimi’s reaction highlights the growing anxiety among Nigerians over recurring cases of abductions, particularly of professionals and students, which have continued to dominate headlines in recent years
