The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the start of campaigns for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections. Campaigns officially began on September 24, 2025, and will run until February 19, 2026, in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC’s timetable.
INEC reminded political parties and candidates to avoid hate speech, violence, and destruction of opponents’ campaign materials. It also stressed that all parties must have equal access to public facilities and media, while the use of incumbency for advantage is prohibited.
The FCT area council elections are scheduled to hold on February 21, 2026.
