Nigerian troops have eliminated three top Boko Haram/ISWAP commanders and eight other fighters during a foiled ambush in Cross-Kauwa, near Lake Chad.
The slain commanders were identified as Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, another unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota. The clash occurred on Monday when terrorists detonated a command improvised explosive device (IED) against a patrol team in Kukawa Local Government Area, according to Operation Hadin Kai Theater Command.
A fierce gun battle followed, forcing the insurgents to retreat with injuries. Troops recovered 14 motorcycles, AK-47 rifles with magazines, rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an anti-aircraft gun, blankets, drugs, and other supplies. Two gun trucks abandoned by the terrorists were destroyed, while additional fighters were taken out by airstrikes guided by Multi-National Joint Task Force intelligence. No troop casualties were reported.
In a separate operation in Madagali, Adamawa State, troops of Sector 1, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, killed three more terrorists and seized AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a mobile phone.
