Tension gripped Niger State on Saturday after a mob lynched and set ablaze a woman identified as Amaye, a local food vendor, over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
The incident occurred in the Kasuwar-Garba community, Mariga Local Government Area, after an exchange with a customer reportedly turned into a blasphemy accusation.
Police initially took her into custody, but the mob overpowered officers, forcefully seized her, and burned her alive.
Confirming the development, Mariga LGA Chairman, Abbas Adamu Kasuwar-Garba, said calm had been restored. Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun also confirmed the attack, noting that investigations were ongoing and perpetrators would be prosecuted.
