Safana LGA in Katsina State has reached a peace agreement with armed bandits, joining Jibia, Batsari, and Danmusa in similar community-led accords aimed at ensuring farmers can work without fear.
The deal, signed at Gemi Forest in Runka, includes 20 terms requiring bandits to halt attacks, release captives, and allow free access to markets and farmlands, while residents agree not to harass herders.
Other frontline LGAs — including Kankara, Faskari, and Dutsinma — remain without such deals and continue to face killings, kidnappings, and attacks. The Katsina State Government insists it is not negotiating directly with bandits, calling the accords community initiatives.
